Well you should try watching the original (Japanese) and then watching the English version... it works for me... I always noticed that hand gesture... and its not just in UY... there's Ranma 1/2 and several other animes...

True. I can read the subtitles and play atention to the details in the Anime with no problem at all.

Besides most of Rumiko animes,which other animes use the "love/rock" gesture when a character is hit?

Well... When getting hit... I will have to search... but I know for sure that in the Sailor Moon anime... they did that alot at the final pose after transforming... at last the blond one with the long hair...
