Urusei Yatsura: Dear My Friends translation help
« on: January 02, 2013, 11:31:14 PM »
I've been working on a remake of Urusei Yatsura: Dear My Friends for a few months now in adventure game studio.
I've got it complete up to the 7th cut-scene where Sara transforms, I don't think I have missed anything up to now but I could be wrong.
The three mini games are finished (although not translated) but I might do a bit more work on the Maximum speed game when I
finish the main game. And I might rewrite the fighting game completely as it works but the code is a mess.
Most of the text and speech is untranslated or has place holder subtitles, the few bits I could translate with a dictionary and online
machine translation are mainly the place names & save progress text (although some of those are wrong).

I was hoping someone who can understand Japanese could help me out with the translations, or does someone know of anyone who
would be willing to help out. I left it until now to ask for help as I wanted to get far enough in remaking the game to be sure that I would
be able to complete the remake before asking anyone else to spend their time helping out, so as not to waste their time.
If anyone is interested in helping you can contact me at: ezekiel000 at lavabit dot com

I can only a few japanese words, so i can help you only on words that can I understand.

But of my knowledge on Lum-chan.com here are two members that can translate japanese->english:

swizzle and Katatonia

Another question: Will you make a Linux version later? I heard Adventure Game Studio runtime has been also ported on Linux.

I'm Linux user and the Windows version crashed with Wine.

Hey, thanks to AtaruLum for letting me know about this.

I have studied Japanese for almost 8 years and lived in Japan all of last year so my Japanese level is pretty high at this point.
I think this is an awesome project and I would love to help translate it.
Just let me know what I need to do and I'll do my best xD

AtaruLum: I also mainly run Linux but I have a windows install for developing this and playing a few games wine can't run at the moment.
I didn't have any trouble with running the compiled game under wine before but I haven't tested it recently, I'll test the latest version tomorrow.
Once I have finished remaking the game I will try to get it working natively in Linux and other platforms, there shouldn't be any problems running it on other platforms as I have avoided plugins and functions that are Windows or DirectX specific. The only problem is extracting the compiled game from the exe file as AGS doesn't produce a separate ags file at the moment. The three mini games are just exe files renamed at the moment (so as not to confuse which file to run) but I hope in the future to produce proper ags versions in the future.

swizzle: I sent you an email.

The game is now completable and a lot of bugs have been fixed.
The main todo now is translation, followed by more testing and writing a manual/readme.
It works in the latest version of wine (1.5.27) on linux in fullscreen (windowed the mouse is stuck in the centre), I'm not sure about previous versions.
