A question about interpretating a moment in a UY Episode.
« on: October 02, 2010, 08:29:07 AM »
I had a question...I was watching one of my favorite episodes of UY, Episode 157. Its when ataru goes on a date with this girl that secretly crushed on him but never could tell him because she had died from an illness. At the end of the episode lum and ataru are near the water and she tickles him and then makes a comment to ataru:
Lum: "Darling?"
Ataru: "What?"
Lum:"Maybe i should become a ghost too."
Ataru: "What a silly thing to say."

When ataru says this is he saying in general like dont be stupid cuz i love you so you dont need to feel like you have to compete with that ghost girl? Or Thats just a silly/stupid statement because it doesnt make sense to say?? I know its probably a simple answer but i was just curious as to the true underlyning meaning to atarus response. Just thought i would ask fellow lumaholics that would have the right answer.

It's a silly thing for 2 reasons:

1 - in order to become a ghost, you have to die (assuming they exist LoL). Dying for such a reason is silly because you die either way, so why make it sooner?

2 - since it's episode 157, which is far away from episode 10, which is the episode that Ataru realizes (and the audience) that he's starting to feel something for her, you can assume that he's like "Don't be silly Lum! You don't have to be a ghost for me to like you! We're friends!".

I've put "friends" because Ataru wouldn't admit AND because if there wasn't any love interest between them, they would still like each other as friends.

Both of those reasons are valid enough to answer Superchick24's question

I am pretty sure Ataru doesn't want Lum to leave him

He is way too proud to admit he is in love with her

He loves her too much and doesn't know how to express it

In fact, Lum Invader is ghost!

ha ha, this is not joke.

In Japanese, Lum Invader is 鬼 (Demon, Oni or Ghost)
