We all know Ataru doesn't want to admit he likes Lum. Honestly, I think he doesn't even want to admit it to himself. Even if he's a huge skirt chaser, I don't think he goes as far as thinking of sex on those girl hunts, because for him sex feels like something for a loving couple.
With that said, he's afraid that sex will lead him to admiting he actually likes Lum.

The electrocution risk might be there, but that's not the main reason.

I agree. Like Wile E. Coyote, Ataru is only thinking about capturing his prey (and not so much what he's going to do with that prey once he gets it).

And (if you follow UruseiYatsura canon), since their real shared first kiss wasn't until the very last animated episode, I'd have to conclude that they haven't had sex yet.

I don't agree at all with you.

I remember that into an episode regarding Kurama Lum asks to Ataru: "what do you find so special about her" and is thought is "why she doesn't understand that it's the dream of every man to have a night of sex with a woman but without necessarily having a link with her?"

Don't forget that, in the episode where he meets the Lady of the crown he cannot resist to have sex with her and he exhort her "let's procreate ! let's procreate !"

And don't forget this one: into the episode "A night togheter", as Perma said, <<ATARU SAW THE LIGHT>> when he realize that, having sex or not, Lum will zap him the same whatever flirt he would have.

The manga is even clear than the anime: Ataru gets excited when Lum says "My body belong to Darling" and in his thought he rip once again Lum's bra screaming "LET'S MAKE THIS NIGHT UNFORGETTALBE !!"

The REAL REASONS are:

- if Ataru had sex with Lum UruseiYatsura would end;
- Rumiko Takahashi T. was shocked by the idea that a boy and a girl of 17 years sleep together, let alone allow them to have sex

that's why I chose the third option, also because is that really the most logical: the time that Lum slept with Ataru made him wear a heavy insulation suit; "to avoid accidental electric shocks that issue while I'm sleeping," said the alien.

Lum and Ataru didn't have sex with Lum in the series because he wants to stay away from her. He doesn't want to fall in love with her. He's afraid of showing is true feelings. He wishes that they had never met.

However, deep inside, Lum means the World to him and he knows it. I don't think Ataru would force any girl into having sex with him and I don't see Ataru seducing Lum. I think he's the kind of person that has to be teased first.

And to add to that, before Ataru has sex with Lum, he as to admit to himself that he's in love with her, which is something I believe that would happen.

About the shocking climax... You really don't know Ataru at all... He would withstand EVERY and ANYthing, specially FOR and WITH Lum.

There's also the chance that Ataru gets so many action that eventually he'll become electric-resistant.
