I had a sit and think about it, and now I remember how I used to watch my MKV files, with everything working perfectly.

First go here. Download the CCCP codec pack and Core Media Player. I had completely forgotten about CMP because I stopped downloading and watching anime once I started finding places where I can just stream them from. As I recall, CMP is probably THE best video player out there. With the CCCP, it will play just about any video file you can download, and it supports just as many formats.

I was going to say that... CCCP is the program I use for watching .MKV files. It the most complete Codec Pack there is.

Actually, I remembered cause my friend downloaded Rozen Maiden and it was in MKV files. Being computer stupid, she asked me how to play them and being a good friend, I found her the link to the Matroska site and, like a lightning bolt going off inside my head, I remembered. Don't we all love story time?

Well computers are hard. I don't even know as half of what you know, for example to put a film on a DVD. Guess I'm considered a computer stupid huh?

mkv- files work great for me after having installed the codec, try to use vlc media-player. I get both subs and audios.

VLC is like the swiss army knife of media players. Small and compact with a simple GUI as well...no need to freak out over codecs.
