Talk about choice. It's taken me ages to decide.

It's not easy to make a decision of this magnitude :)

You know, being the one who created the poll, I should be allowed to see what the votes are even if I set it so it doesn't show till the end of march...

Shutaro, r u the one who made the AMV called Lum uninvites you? The one where there's like MAJOR well done timing for Lum singing?

If so, I have a few questions.

I have a few questions about the timing.

First, what program did you use for making that amv?

Are there any tips or tricks to timing the lum clips to speak the lyrics?

You know, it's going to take me some time to make a proper decision about this one. It's not an easy decision. I'll have to run through the whole series again, for one. It's not like it's voting for president or anything (that's an easy choice).

I assume this has something to do with the near conclusion of posting the final season of UY over on youtube?

Yes, that's why you have about a month to get in ur votes. Hopefully that's long enough, a lot of the episodes are easy to remember the plot on.

I had already planned on making this contest for a few months.

Off topic, but answering the question above.

I used Ulead MediaStudio Pro 7.

The syncing was created from screen grabs of the same scene with her mouth in the 3 stages of talking (Closed, half open and open). Because screen grabs don't move and it all looks very static its best to just mask a moving clip (even if it is only a few frames repeated) with the mouth over layed on top, then you can get her to say anything you like. That's how most of the synced scenes were made, the rest were just clips with tweaked speeds so her mouth moved when it was meant to. Hope that helps :)

Back on topic, don't panic about this poll too much. Your choices should really be based on the episodes you have the fondest memories of.
Watching them all again before voting seems a little extreme   ;)

K, I kinda understood that but to be sure I'll get my friend to show me too after getting him to read what you said. Thank you ^_^

Alright, so all three sites are notified of the contest being taken place. Let's hope we can create a good new top 10.

PS, the question about how to sync lips is technically not quite off topic cause I need it for the top 10 episode thing.

Oh! What's UruseiNeo thinking? what's he thinking? Well I tell you now I'm not gonna sync my voice to anything.

Not really, I was planning on watching the whole run of the series again soon anyway. Next time I get a few days free and don't have something else that needs to be done right away.

As far as the lip syncing thing, what you described is the basic trick of lip syncing in ANY kind of animation. Anime makes it easier because you don't have to worry about things like making the jaw move with the mouth or necessarily changing the facial expression a lot when speaking (as long as the emotion of the voice doesn't call for it). It's a tip I picked up for when I do Flash animation. Start with a static picture of the characters head, but without the mouth, and then add a mouth that moves properly with the words being spoken. 3 states of the mouth is the minimum, though. I use a few more than just the 3 you say because it looks a little more realistic. After all, your mouth looks a little different depending on what sounds you're making. Just talk to a mirror sometime, and see the difference between making an "O" or a "U" sound (small and round) and making an "A" or "Ah" sound (fully open). It's a good trick though.

First off, I really want to thank you and all the others who put up those episodes.

Secondly, this poll really makes me glad that as I went along I kept a list of my favotie episodes, it'd be a nightmare to try to keep track without it.

I bought the program from http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite/gb/en/Product/1181657926967

They let you download a trial version. I don't know if they have all the features but that's probably your best bet.

Personal note - I've had my Virgin Media broadband upgraded from 4mb to 10mb, sadly this has an average transfer rate of 150byes per second. The internet 'times out' on virtually everything other than a text file. So please forgive me if my response was a little tardy  :)

It was a difficult process choosing only 10. I ended up narrowing the field down to less than 30, and from those, chose the 10 best. Very hard choices, indeed. But here's what I chose, and why:

Episode 1 - I'm Lum the Notorious / It's Raining Oil in Our Town

What can I say? It was the first episode and the one that brought Lum to the Earth. Without this story, really, none of the others can take place. Probably the most important episode of all.

Episode 10 - Pitter Patter Christmas Eve

All in all, just a great episode. It showed us how much Lum really cares for Ataru, and for the first time in the anime, shows the seeds of love for Lum that have been sown in Ataru.

Episode 25 - Fly, Imo-chan!

Probably my favorite (and one of the most under-rated) episode. Ataru and Lum's rapport is shown so well in this episode that you can't help but love it. Not to mention the inclusion of who could best be described as their "child" together.

Episode 42 - Drunkard’s Boogie

Though it's played off more as Lum getting "drunk", if you know what's what, you can tell she's a little beyond just drunk... she's trippin' balls (if you excuse the language) straight up.

Episode 44 - After You’ve Gone

You know, I just have to agree with countless Japanese during the original airing of the series, that this is certainly one of the best. Number one, I don't know, but it's definitely good. Ataru crying over Lum being gone? Come on!

Episode 64 - The Season For Goodbyes

Quite simply, this and the manga chapter it's based on, in my opinion, is one of the funniest stories in the whole of the series. The manga was funnier, what with everyone breaking the 4th wall and fighting for who's going to take over as lead role in the series, but the anime did a good interpretation as well.

Episode 91 - Document! Who’ll Be Miss Tomobiki?

Though the anime version of this story was a bastardization of the original manga story, I have to say, that this is the one case I can think of where the anime made the story FUNNIER. The whole political faction battle is just epic.

Episode 117 - Lum the Cow

Sure, Lum's paranoia was just getting to her, but once Ataru learned of what she thought was going to happen, he really went out of his way to take care of her, and try and cheer her up.

Episode 172 - An Importunate Happiness Salesman, Blue Bird!

The story with the Bluebird of Happiness, in my opinion, is another one of the funniest stories in the whole series. In many ways, he reminds me of the classic tales of the Genies, granting your wishes, but in ways where you just don't know what's going to happen.

Episode 195 - All-Star Party! We Are Immortal!

The final episode. I think saving this story for the end was a great choice. It was a fantastic way to close out the anime series (even if the story in the manga happened a whole lot earlier). How can you beat a party with the gods?

Well, there you go. My choices.
Excuse me, have you seen my mind? I seem to have misplaced it...
