Ok, so I've been working on this little secret (not anymore) project for the past week or so now that's intended to help me in my writing of UYRemix. Basically it's some kind of ultimate reference sheet for the entirety of Urusei Yatsura. Let me explain...

I've got this spreadsheet that breaks down the important elements of each manga storyline. At least what I think are the important elements. These elements include all the major characters in each story, a general idea of when in the year the story takes place (such as the general "Summer" or "Winter" or "School" or more specifics such as "Christmas", "New Years", "Setsubun", "Valentine's Day", or, if a time isn't suggested), and a short one-sentence summary of the premise of the story.

I'm to about chapter 329 at the time of this posting (the beginning of the Inaba story arc).

Once I get done with the manga chapters, I'm going to do the same thing with the anime episodes/ovas/movies, matching them with their equivalent manga chapter(s) and denoting anything significantly anime-exclusive that differs from the manga chapter it was based on, or any stories that are wholly exclusive to the anime.

Sure sounds like a lot of work, doesn't it. Now you understand why I said it's making my brain numb. Just wanted to share. And if anyone wants a copy... you can wait until I'm done (or you can try to convince me to let you help me, I'm sure I could use someone double checking my work).

Yes, that is what a spreadsheet is. Although it's organized by Wideban Volume/Chapter right now, once I get all the anime information plugged in, a few clicks of the mouse could rearrange it to be organized by anime episode. Or by the appearances of a certain character. Or by the general time frame of the story.


Update: I'm done going through the manga. Now for the task of going through the anime.


Here's a fun fact I discovered... Did you know that there are more chapters without Ataru than there are without Lum? There are only 4 chapters without an appearance by Lum, and 13 chapters without an appearance by Ataru. That fact actually surprised me.

I don't think UY without Lum or Ataru is the same. =S It feels... empty.

One or the other appeared in them all. There were a few where Lum and Ataru played bit roles, but at least one of them was present in each chapter.

Yes. And it isn't just "tend to be" it is. All of the chapters without Ataru were Lum and either Benten, Ran or Oyuki (or some combination thereof).


BTW, right now I'm taking a little break from it before I start doing the anime. Mostly because I know the anime's going to take me probably twice as long as it took to do the manga.
