What did you think of the ending of Urusei Yatsura 5: The Final Chapter? Please answer ONE of options 1 to 3 and ONE of 4 and 5, it would be easier if this site had questionnaires but I don't think that is possible with HTML.

I made the spoiler warnings to make absolutely sure that nobody has the ending of UY spoiled for them. Always try and use spoiler tabs anyway but I thought it should be there in case someone posts a spoiler without hiding it.

I never comment on the first post in a new topic that asks for peoples opinions in case I influence what other people say. I always post them later in the topic.

I thought the ending was pretty good, but does Ataru really need to be THAT much of a hardhead?

That's Ataru. It's part of his personality.

In the TV anime, he acts like one too, but if Lum is gone for a long time, he usually gives in. This wasn't the case with the movie.

After almost TWO YEARS I have FINALLY watched the 5th movie. As I predicted I very much enjoyed it.

OMG I can't even explain the feeling of watching that movie. I paused several times because I need to break. This is the first time I have ever watched any UY in English FIRST (aside from the first 2 episodes back when I started watching it... UruseiNeo was a dumb*** back then). This time though, I found watching it English was okay.

Again, I just can't explain how I feel right now other than the fact that I am motivated to do a lot of things today  (?)

I only watched the movies in English, nothing else (since most of UY isn't available like that anyway). Maybe I'll get back to them later and check out the difference in Japanese.

The movie 5 ending felt different from the manga. More of UY's early wackiness to it.

 you cannot end an epic tale like UY with just one page (in the manga) or with just few seconds (in the film - AN WITHOUT EVEN A LITTLE KISS !!!!)

I've waited for about 20 years to have the skill, the tools and things like that to realize something that could "repare" this enormous fault (you know what I'm talking about      )

Yes well, kiss or not, the way it ended was actually spectacular. In my opinion, a kiss wouldn't be the best solution. They had Ataru show Lum his feelings. Think about it, if it ended with a kiss or with him finally admitting:

(1) Fans would have thoughts such as "well I basically thought that was going to happen" or "Okay, but what happened after that?"

(2) It wouldn't feel right. It's just not in the characters to do so.
