In terms of episodes, one might say that one episode could occur the day after another episode (therefore the longest length of time for the series is about 200 days.)

This theory only works assuming that they are not shown completely chronological, but something that supports it is that only ONE Setsubun (a yearly tradition) was shown in the anime series (though not the manga)

Some episodes happen through the days. Like one episode is like 3 days or 2. Some it might even be one week. xD

The age of UY characters is something undefinable beyond the one stated by themselves...we know the age of a lot of Tomobiki students (most of them are 16-17), we can assume Sakura and some other chara's, but quite only Lum and Ataru stated clearly how much old they are!
And they keeped that same age from the beginning to the present, that's something we know very well!
So, the question could be "How much old would be Lum if she was real?"
Heh, THAT'S a hard question!!!
We know the earth year of her birth (3rd movie), but not the correspondant day, only the Uru zodiac sign: the tigerstriped unicorn! (???)
Nevertheless, we know she has the same age of Ataru, and we know a lot more about him: 17 years old and born on the 13th of April, a friday!!!
The tv show started in the late 1981, but the manga was made in 1979...1979-17=1962...and the 13th of April in 1962 was: FRIDAY!
That's the "real" birth date of Ataru, and this means today he would be 47 years old...and since Lum is the same age... ^^;;
Someone could argue "but how could she be 47 if she was born in 1967?"
Well, Albert Einstein's theory of Special Relativity says that time slows down for fast-moving space travelers, so this may explain a few years of difference! ^^
But again, she REALLY doesn't look her age! ^O^

Moroboshi, if you wanna knows the DAY and the MONTH about Lamù's birthday you've to read "when tomorrow comes"  (coming soon) ;D  ;D  ;D

However, how old is Tex Willer ?

How old is Diabolik ?

Or Asterix ?

Or Superman ?

Or Lara Croft ?

THE MAIN CHARACTERS OF A COMIC NEVER GROW OLD !!

That's why is funny when we found some reference about their birthday !!

By the way: Ataru and Shutare are both aries but we know day and month of birht just about the first one.

Does anybody knows about other birthdays into UY ?!?

That was said here because the anime started airing in October. xD
We had a topic where we were discussing Lum's birthday to mark it on the calender. :P

I know that. But I remember that there was a topic where someone posted a link to a website in English where it was this article about Rumiko Takahashi and Urusei Yatsura and Rumiko said Lum was born in October something. And I saw this the year I joined here!

From the horoscope matchmaker episode (early in the series). He mentions it then.

I SAID DECEMBER !!!  ;D;)
Yeah, I'd pondered her Earth birthsign for awhile. Used to play with Astrology way-back-when. And while I thought that Takahashi got it right with Ataru & Shuutoru (Aries), she was off-base with Lum (suggesting that she was a Libra). I neither know personally nor can I imagine a Libra having the displays of temper that Lum does.

Oh well. Different artists have different needs when creating their universe of characters. Some do all the detail work, asssigning birthdays (and appropriate birthsigns) to their characters (Kagami Yoshimizu REALLY got it right with his cast in Lucky Star, for example). Others -- Takahashi included -- don't feel a need to assign such detail.

Heck maybe Rumiko didn't even thought about their zodiac. Maybe she just went to a calendar searching for a Friday 13th and bingo!

I think with Takahashi it's whatever is sufficient for the joke: she wanted Ataru to be the Unluckiest Boy In The World, so she had him born on Friday the 13th of the 4th month (4 is unlucky in Japanese mythology), he's in room 4 of his grade, his singlet always bears either #4 or #13, plus there's a laundry list of bad omens about his birth in the 1st chapter of the manga (it's only 1 page, when Mrs. and Mr. Moroboshi are retelling the day of Ataru's birth to Cherry).

I can't account for Shuutoru's birthday being in April 1st other than perhaps a suggestion that his nature is associated with April Fools' Day, and the 4th-month thing again.

I have always had a theory that the aliens from Planet Uru are way older than humans yet age at a very slow rate

Lum could be around 50 years old (Time of Earth) yet she is around 16 - 20 years old according to her race

Lets also consider that all the characters at UY have been exposed to supernatural/alien stuff, changing their metabolism forever

Anyways,it is OK to see the characters are not getting older at all
