THE REAL AGE OF LAMU'
« on: October 14, 2009, 11:44:30 PM »
Take a look at this one #Invalid YouTube Link#, at 3'11"

SO CLEAR: LUM - 1967

It means that, during "Remember my love", she had 17 years !!

It means that TODAY SHE HAS 42 YEARS !!!

42 YEARS BROUGHT VERY WELL !!!

... but a not-written-rule of any comic says: "THE MAIN CHARACTERS NEVER GROW OLD" !!!

IT MEANS THAT SHE HAS STILL 17 YEARS !!

PS: Pity, neither in that occasion is revelaed her date of birth

PS2: you're "forced" to read "when tomorrow comes" to know it  ;D  :*)  ???  :D

Man that's funny! Italian dubbing FTW! xD

Anyways, to me, Lum (and the rest of the cast that had 17 years old at the time) will always be 17 years old.

Urusei Yatsura 3: Remember My Love was released in January 1985, if Lum was born in 1967 then she should have been 18 then if the time period was the same as when it was released.

I know that in some of the episodes of the TV series some characters have monologues in which they state the year and their age which is always 17. The year is always the same year that the particular episode was originally broadcast but the age of the character is always the same. This suggests that the characters stay the same age even though the years move on, maybe this is part of the weirdness in Tomobiki, I don't know.

I don't know which episodes have these monologues. If you know please tell me.

A clip of that part of the movie in Japanese with English subtitles. You'll have to go onto youtube as the uploader Neo1Fox has disabled embedding.

Into the episode "Ryoko's masquerade party" Ataru, few minutes before to be screwed, says that he has 17 years !!

Into "Lamù the forever" she sais "once upon me and Ran were able to understeand the speaches of the birds but now it became so difficult, because we're growing old. IN FACT WE HAVE 17 YEARS !!"

Into "Forever my darling" Benten complain with Lamù: "Hey, stop drinking: you're not major".

But I think that the only one birthday date is revealed on the episode "happy birthday" by Ataru: april the 13.

PLIN PLON: the 4 is un unluck number because he finish with the ideogram "shi", who means "death".

APRIL THE 13 IS THE TOP OF BAD LUCK FOR A JAPANESE.

IN FACT...

april (4) the 13 ---> 1+3 = 4

Ataru MoroboSHI = "HIT BY A DEATHLY FALLEN STAR", born on april the 13

Oh my Goooooooooood   :D  :D  :D

I think that neither Willy the Coyote is more unluck than Ataru  :D

The part where he doesn't do the last 3? xD

Still, I don't agree he's unlucky.
He brings his own unluckyness upon himself since all he does is chase skirts. xD

I noticed that in on the computer after 1967 arrow pointing to some small characters. I have tried high quality and they are still blurred so its impossible to tell if these are characters of a real language or just alien nonsense. If someone has the movie on DVD these would probably be readable. I wonder if they contain more information about Lum's DOB.

Hey, he hugged and was hugged and kissed was kissed by Lum a few times in the series.

Also, how do you think Mayuka appeared? I don't think either Lum and Ataru are infertile.

What I mean is that he should kiss her a lot more, let her hug him more often and bang her everyday. xD

About Mayuka, I wonder if we'll ever see her animated... ;D

Mayuka isn't a proper UY character as she was thought up in fan fiction.

After all that zapping... I would be surprised if he isn't suffering of a Deep Fried Nuts Disease.

bang her everyday. xD

That's so not healthy. I mean it. It can cause major internal injuries in women and external injuries on men.

That's nothing compared to Ataru's endurance.

I'll take your word on that, miss gynecologist. :P

Anyway, we're going way offtopic here. xD
What we have to consider about Lum's age is that days may be shorter/longer in Uru, so we can never know her actual age (meaning her age in her own planet).
She does look about 17~18 on earthling standarts though, so I guess 17 is just about right.

In terms of episodes, one might say that one episode could occur the day after another episode (therefore the longest length of time for the series is about 200 days.)

This theory only works assuming that they are not shown completely chronological, but something that supports it is that only ONE Setsubun (a yearly tradition) was shown in the anime series (though not the manga)

Some episodes happen through the days. Like one episode is like 3 days or 2. Some it might even be one week. xD

The age of UY characters is something undefinable beyond the one stated by themselves...we know the age of a lot of Tomobiki students (most of them are 16-17), we can assume Sakura and some other chara's, but quite only Lum and Ataru stated clearly how much old they are!
And they keeped that same age from the beginning to the present, that's something we know very well!
So, the question could be "How much old would be Lum if she was real?"
Heh, THAT'S a hard question!!!
We know the earth year of her birth (3rd movie), but not the correspondant day, only the Uru zodiac sign: the tigerstriped unicorn! (???)
Nevertheless, we know she has the same age of Ataru, and we know a lot more about him: 17 years old and born on the 13th of April, a friday!!!
The tv show started in the late 1981, but the manga was made in 1979...1979-17=1962...and the 13th of April in 1962 was: FRIDAY!
That's the "real" birth date of Ataru, and this means today he would be 47 years old...and since Lum is the same age... ^^;;
Someone could argue "but how could she be 47 if she was born in 1967?"
Well, Albert Einstein's theory of Special Relativity says that time slows down for fast-moving space travelers, so this may explain a few years of difference! ^^
But again, she REALLY doesn't look her age! ^O^

Moroboshi, if you wanna knows the DAY and the MONTH about Lamù's birthday you've to read "when tomorrow comes"  (coming soon) ;D  ;D  ;D

However, how old is Tex Willer ?

How old is Diabolik ?

Or Asterix ?

Or Superman ?

Or Lara Croft ?

THE MAIN CHARACTERS OF A COMIC NEVER GROW OLD !!

That's why is funny when we found some reference about their birthday !!

By the way: Ataru and Shutare are both aries but we know day and month of birht just about the first one.

Does anybody knows about other birthdays into UY ?!?

I know that. But I remember that there was a topic where someone posted a link to a website in English where it was this article about Rumiko Takahashi and Urusei Yatsura and Rumiko said Lum was born in October something. And I saw this the year I joined here!

From the horoscope matchmaker episode (early in the series). He mentions it then.

I SAID DECEMBER !!!  ;D;)
Yeah, I'd pondered her Earth birthsign for awhile. Used to play with Astrology way-back-when. And while I thought that Takahashi got it right with Ataru & Shuutoru (Aries), she was off-base with Lum (suggesting that she was a Libra). I neither know personally nor can I imagine a Libra having the displays of temper that Lum does.

Oh well. Different artists have different needs when creating their universe of characters. Some do all the detail work, asssigning birthdays (and appropriate birthsigns) to their characters (Kagami Yoshimizu REALLY got it right with his cast in Lucky Star, for example). Others -- Takahashi included -- don't feel a need to assign such detail.

Heck maybe Rumiko didn't even thought about their zodiac. Maybe she just went to a calendar searching for a Friday 13th and bingo!

I think with Takahashi it's whatever is sufficient for the joke: she wanted Ataru to be the Unluckiest Boy In The World, so she had him born on Friday the 13th of the 4th month (4 is unlucky in Japanese mythology), he's in room 4 of his grade, his singlet always bears either #4 or #13, plus there's a laundry list of bad omens about his birth in the 1st chapter of the manga (it's only 1 page, when Mrs. and Mr. Moroboshi are retelling the day of Ataru's birth to Cherry).

I can't account for Shuutoru's birthday being in April 1st other than perhaps a suggestion that his nature is associated with April Fools' Day, and the 4th-month thing again.

I have always had a theory that the aliens from Planet Uru are way older than humans yet age at a very slow rate

Lum could be around 50 years old (Time of Earth) yet she is around 16 - 20 years old according to her race

Lets also consider that all the characters at UY have been exposed to supernatural/alien stuff, changing their metabolism forever

Anyways,it is OK to see the characters are not getting older at all
