I think DarkDevil is talking about a "carpet-bombing" name-recollection strategy. If you say all the (thousands) of names you can remember, chances are the correct name will be in there somewhere. However, if you don't recall the name at all, this strategy doesn't work because you won't even be able to say it...

Even then, if you still can't associate the person (or thing ?) with the name, you'll have to repeat all the names all over again...

forgetting someones name is unavoidable in some way, and we'll have to live with it

once you are in the "hey dude" part there's no turning back, unless you hear someone calling him/her by their name, once you hear it devote yourself in learning it

It's so embarassing when you know someone but you can't remember her/his name. I hate when that happens. Mostly when I need to get the atention of somebody.

I just run to the person and touch her and tell her what I wanted to say. But if I can't reach the person I just do eye contact or send a note.

Good method,just always remember that sometimes when ya send notes in school you are risking to be caught by the teacher
