Topic: I told a friend about Urusei Yatsura and he said it sounds wrong.

I told him that it was romantic comedy about a man who is in love with an alien. I showed him a picture of Lum to show that it wasn't what it sounded but then he said that she looks like a cat which made it disgusting.





This friend doesn't watch anime and manga but once bought a book on how to draw manga because he thought it looks cool (he gave up immediately though because he thought he didn't have any talent). I don't know whether he can be a fan of anime and manga (let's call it A&M) because he doesn't watch it but he does like the art style.

for someone who is not familiar with anime, start them off with something that isn't perverted or very violent.  A good anime, I believe, would be "Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles" since its one of the few anime you will find that doesn't have a tendency to include perverted aspects, and it has a nice combination of action, fantasy, and romance.

This is going to sound really sexist but if you want to introduce UY to "new" fans, only do it to girls. =/

But seriously, there's no chance to be offended by nudity. Sailor Moon, Son Goku, etc. There are nudes everywhere: in TV, in the beach, etc. There's no way a girl would be offended by UY. xD

Yea i doubt a girl would be offended by nudity. Hell i introduced urusei yatsura to 1 of my female friends who liked anime and the only reason she stopped was because she said ataru and his friends are a bunch of A-holes lol. But she finished the series when i told her he gets better later on.

He was offended by the alien aspect of it, that people want to have sex / have relationships with aliens. I also told him about Chobits and he thought that people want to have sex / have relationships with robots. I have never seen Chobits but have seen it in a top ten list from JesuOtaku.

If ou want to introduce someone to anime, you better start with something short, preferably not too ecchi, or they can get the wrong idea of anime.
Then get them into one of the big ones like One Piece and it's done.

A cat, really? Yeah, that's what happens when you tell people who don't like anime as much as you might, lol My brother and I are the only ones in our family who really like it, so anime is considered rare for us.

Yep, its a normal thing xD I use to dislike it, but what can you do? But, no way Lum doesn't look like a cat. How you gets horns mixed with cat ears I don't know. lol
