You don't have to be Christian to celebrate Christmas. That's the whole point of my Giftmas thing. Christians no longer hold sole claim on the holiday because so little of it actually has anything to do with Christian beliefs anymore, and the little that does was all made up to begin with.

If Christians can steal Yule from Germanic Pagans and turn it into Christmas (despite Jesus being born in either April or September), then why can't non-religious types steal it from Christians?

I got One Piece season 1 (eps 1-13) some video games including Rock Band 2, candy, rubix cube, some sweaters, Lost Season 4, etc.

It's not meant to be offensive. Let's have fun with facts, and since you didn't figure out to follow my link, I'll copy and paste.

For starters, the man, Jesus of Nazareth, was born in either April or September, neither of which is December 25th. The Germanic pagans had a holiday that was celebrated around the winter solstice called Yule, and when the Julian calendar was adopted by these newly Romanized people, the date was assigned to the 25th of December. By the time Christianity was invented some 300 years after the Romans executed the guy it worshipped, Germanic paganism dominated much of the Roman Empire, and since Christianity had suddenly become the official state, and only legal, religion thanks to the Emperor Constantine, they needed a way to bring those people into the fold. So they decided Christmas was to be a replacement for Yule. The people could keep their customs and traditions (which included such ideas as putting candles into pine trees, going door-to-door and signing, and feasting), but practice them in a legal, Christianized context. That's when someone came up with the bright idea of inventing Christmas.

That's the real and factual history and meaning of Christmas. It wasn't meant to celebrate the birth of Jesus that took place either 3 months before or 4 months after, it was a political ploy trying to get Pagans to accept an anthology religion created by the Roman state.



Oh and as far as what I got for Giftmas, I got a jacket, a bunch of tools I'm never going to use, and I bought myself a few 360 games the other day.

But I thought it started with the REAL St. Nick who actually did go around houses delivering toys for a time.

I got 2 caps, 2 sweaters, 1 picture frame, 1 bracelet, 1 Sporting CP mug, 1 kiss (BEST GIFT EVER!!!) , 1 2009 Sporting CP calendar and a Disney plush.

I'm going to get a few more gifts, though.
