Names & Surnames
« on: December 15, 2008, 11:45:39 PM »
I was wondering about this:

Name: ATARU
Surname: MOROBOSHI

Easy, isn't it ?

Another one:

Name: SHUTARO or RYOKO
Surname: MENDO

Not at all difficult to remember.

WHAT ABOUT THE REST OF THEM ?!?

I found on wikipedia that the surname of SHINOBU is MIYAKE and the one of RYONOSUKE is FUJINAMI; anyone of you knows about the rest?

PS: abput Lamù I give up immediatly: I remember that during the episode "happy birthday" prof. Onsen is calling all the guys one by one by their surname but he call the alien just "Lamù" and nothing else.

Lum's last name is "Invader" XD

The show tends to not use it cause it makes her sound evil or something, at least that's my interpretation.

Miyake, I believe, is Shinobu's FIRST name. I remember both Miyake Shinobu and Ryuunosuke Fujinami just fine (aside from spelling).

You always hear Ryuu's dad called "Mr. Fujinami"

I think the REAL question to ask is what it Mr. Fujinami's FIRST name?

I wonder which one is true!?

Lum  could  have  chance  her  surname  to  Moroboshi.
Because  of  their  suposet  maraige  in  the  firt  episode.
That  could  be  a reason  why  prof  uses  her  first  name.  to  not  confuse  the  two.

Ps.  Why  do  you  think  that  RT  never mentions  chanching  your  surname  in  UY.  It  is  very  common  in  television  to  heard  a  girl  in  love  ,or  some  times  a  guy,  thinking  abaut  the  new  surname  the  wife  after  marrige  is  going  to  get  after  the  wedding.

Maybe she's one of those people who doesn't believe in changing last name.

I think Sakura's last name is "Sakuramboo"

Sakuramboo is Cherry first name, Cherry is only a nickname.

I don't think Sakura's surname is ever mentioned, at least not in the anime. o.o

I guess "Invader" isn't Lum's last name. It's just a way that people found to name the invanders. Like Mr. Invader it's just a easier way to call Lum's parents. The same goes for "Oni". It's Lum's race but "Mr. Oni" is the way that people use to refer to Lum's father and mother. It's just my thoughts. I didn't do research on this matter.

You've to remember also that Lum and her parents are speaking an unknown language, so her surname could be unpronounceable in earthian language (if we assume that japanese could be "THE" earthian language).

About the rest, we've to consider also this:

"Megane" means "GLASSES";
"Chibi" means "CHICK";
"Perma" means "PERMANENT"
"Kakugari" means "HAIRSCUT TRENDY"

I'm thinking that Rumiko gave to the secondary characters just a nickname who could resume their personality in only one word, to avoid to waste time to define anyone of them in infinitesimal details.

About Sakurambo, we've to consider also that in japanese it means "cherry" but when Ataru is refering to him use the ideograms that means "you idiot monk", even if the prononce is so similar !!!

A writer not giving his or her characters anything more than a first (or sometimes a last with a prefix such as "Mr." or "Ms.") name is not uncommon. Other than the characters listed by Falling near the beginning of the thread and one other, none of the characters have full names.

As far as the stormtroopers, RT got rid of them in the manga shortly after Mendo became a regular character, in favor of more interesting characters. Any time there was need for other male classmates in the story after that, it was either Mendo or the other character that had a full name, Kosuke Shirai. The anime team kept the stormtroopers and gave them roles from the manga that were originally meant for Kosuke or Mendo. Personally, I think the stories were better without them.
Excuse me, have you seen my mind? I seem to have misplaced it...

Haven't seen the episode yet, but I'm lead to believe that the Stormtroopers' given names are used in one of the last episodes. Can anyone verify this, please?

when  i  whent  to  the  furico  website  they  had  the  meanings  for  each  of  the  main  characters  name.  What  realy  strooke  me  was  Atarus  full  name  means  "hit  by  a  falling  star".  That  name  seams  to  fit  the  story  so  well  i  laught.  RT  reraly  puts  alot  of  effort  on  the  names.
