Urusei Yatsura Project D (Dub)
« on: March 10, 2008, 11:47:04 PM »
Okay, here we will discuss the possibility of dubbing Urusei Yatsura.

Now, first of all let's try and see who does a good Ataru.

Does anyone wanna try? The sample scene we will use is a scene from the first episode. Where Ataru first meets Cherry.

Lemme try to get my microphone fixed and i shall try to voice ataru eventually (or cherry,if possible)

How about we establish some points regarding the dubbing?

First : The applicants shall submit their recorded voice here

Second: Uruseineo shall check them and (if possible) he or Shutaro would sync the best ones in the sample scene

Finally: Uruseineo shall upload the sample scene with the dubbing on Youtube/Veoh

agreed. OKay, here's the first scene's lines:

*drooling* Did somebody call me?

huh?

*gets hit* Ah!

Damn, this must be an unlucky day!

Oh, geez, W... What the hell are you?

*Cherry speaks*

Ha! That's stupid! I make it a point not to believe in superstitions and all that crap!
See ya!

*cherry speaks*

I have to go this way to go home! Geez!
-------------------------------------------------

keep in mind you don't have to say these exact lines. You can change them a little if it helps syncing it to the mouth movement.

See, and if I were going to do any characters, it'd have to be Ataru or Cherry at the top of the list (Mendo would be another good one I could do).

Ataru because... for so many reasons, he reminds me of how I used to be back when I was his age (except a little more extreme, I didn't exactly go around molesting every woman I knew).

Cherry because I have such a perfect idea of what his voice should sound like in English. All I can say, is think Mr. Miyagi from Karate Kid.

Hell, I could probably do that whole scene by myself (I have a bit of talent when it comes to my voice, and could pull off doing multiple characters.
Excuse me, have you seen my mind? I seem to have misplaced it...

If you think you could do a good cherry then could you try doing his lines for the sample scene?

I'll see if I can't fit it in. If there wasn't such a thing as deadlines, then I'd be all for it. It might be pretty fun. But with my UYRemix I'm doing, 3 of my own original comics, finishing up 5 CDs worth of music production, trying to finish teaching myself Japanese, a very large game I'm designing and building by myself in Flash, trying to get a job that actually PAYS, rebuilding my website from the ground up, and in about 2 months going back to school to finally finish my degree... working with deadlines is a pretty hard thing to accomplish. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. I've got a whole list of things that I intend on doing but are designated as "things to do at some point in the future before I die." Seriously, being multi-talented like that may sound cool, but it can be a real stone bitch sometimes. Especially when you get a creative block that just seems to never go away and things just pile up higher and higher.

Anyway, I didn't mean to rant. Ignore all that. I think I just needed to let it out one time.

That's cool. Right now we're trying to see if we can get a hold of lum92 for the voice of Lum.

Alright... my friend FINALLY came through for me and got me Ulead VideoStudio -11-

Thanks to sidezero for showing me where to get a torrent for another version though ^_^

Anyways, now that I have this, Project D will run more smoothly. All I need right now are voice samples to test with. If you want, you can try voicing a character in a few ways and then we can choose the best one.

But I NEED at least one to try with so is anybody gonna give me a sample? Doesn't matter which character, I was hoping for Ataru.

creating even a sample voice isn't as simple to make, so this requires patience my young padawan

I know, it's just hard to know whether or not people are interested in this. If I can get just one sample done well it could attract more people into helping us.

Patience.... or the simple process of opening sound recorder, taking out your microphone, pressing record, reading your lines, and pressing stop, and saving the result. :)

No, it's not that simple. I tried doing the voice for Mendou, Megane... both sucked horribly. Eventually I tried Ten which went pretty well but I had to go through trial an error to get one good sample

And it's still not quite right. So it does take a few tries to get the sample sounding right.

Okay so I think I made a good sample for Ten but until I can get the BGM I'm not gonna release it.

It's the very first appearance of Ten from episode 2, first time you see him as he comes out of the peach. Line is "This Earth sure's a scary planet"

I looked in the music box but couldn't find the BGM so if someone could direct me to it or if someone can give me an episode which has the same BGM, even if it's longer, without any other sound interruptions?

Thank you ^_^

Good news, I found the feature that changes the pitch of voices so this way we can adjust a voice if it's not quite what we want. I already used it to make my Ten voice better.
Posted on: March 19, 2008, 03:32:18 AM
Cata, do you want to try a Benten and/or Ryuunosuke voice for us? If you can't get your voice quite how you want it I have the pitch adjuster.

That thing sure is fun to play with ^_^ I've been using it on some of my songs XD

Well to record ur voice all u really need is a microphone that hooks up to the computer. I'm pretty sure Windows Movie Maker (which usually is installed on the computer when u get one) has a recording feature.

This is one of Benten's lines from part 2 of episode 15:

"Hey, Lum! What's new?"
(Lum speaks)
"I was bored silly, so I came to see Earth's Setsubun to kill time." (Setsubun pronounciation: Sets-oo-boon)

And here is a line by Ryuunosuke from her debuting episode 63:

"Why the hell should I be like a man?! I'm a... GIRL!"

Anyways, don't worry about ur voice. I hated my voice too especially when I tried doing a Megane and Mendou voice. Finally I tried Ten and found that using the pitch adjuster helps A LOT. With that feature, I can do a few voices now.

Thanks

I haven't seen Janus or Cosmic for a while and they're kinda co-organizing the dubbing with me. Cosmic apparently hasn't even signed in for a few days.

Hmmm... I think I might be able to do an Onsen-Mark voice with the pitch adjuster...
Posted on: March 20, 2008, 11:35:43 PM
Okay... does anyone know what happened to Cosmic?

I don't. I haven't got time to go to the messenger because I have "extra" homework and it's really hard and it takes a few hours everyday, I have to organise a 5 day camp, I have to create an outfit (buy the stuff and really make it) for the final night of the camp and somedays, I have to visit my family and that makes my tasks being beyond schedule. Sorry for this offtopic. Anyways I'll try to be online as much as I can.

you do realize that people fandub animes all the time right? It's not like we are taking credit for creating the episode. And also I think I heard someone say that the rights were distributed among multiple people one of which being Stan Lee.

I read the Stan Lee thing somewhere here before, but I seriously doubt it. I think it's all in the hands of Takahashi-sensei, and/or her publisher.
