Would you describe yourself as being an otaku?

For some people otaku is a negative, but for fans of anime and manga being an otaku is a status symbol.

I would consider myself between an otaku and a weaboo, but not quite both in my criteria, since I don't tend to show off what I like to other people and people wouldn't know I like anime unless I tell them so.
If you know what if means to be a weaboo or an otaku, make a cheklist to see if I'm wrong or not.

Anyone who knows I exist, knows I love Anime. People consider me an Otaku and my friends don't see it as a bad thing. Obviously, I think it's one of the best things someone could say about me.

I consider myself an Otaku since I love Anime and I want to increase my knowledge about Japanese culture and obviously Anime.

I think it's okay to like anime and appreciate Japanese culture.

However there are many people that take things too far, and start denying themselves of even being who they are. They'll completely mimic anime culture to the point where they are sick (eg. speak japanese because it's cool, dress in weird cloths, completely change their diet to Japanese dishes only, believe that they are 100% Japanese, show hatred and complete denial that they are american/canadian/whatever).

That's a weeaboo.

well I admire much the Talent Japanese can have and try to learn much as I can from it, but I don't take such drastic actions like weboos do, like making friends with someone just because he/she is Japanese and asking them about anime, or trying to act as them and denying your background. That reason that I don't do that I take those measure (although sometimes on the inside I want to) is for respect to the Japanese in general, Putting myself in their shoes and seeing that type of obsessive behavior from a weaboo wold be embarrassing or even insulting. I try to see both on both sides, so that is why I have this opinion

You know? You're starting to scare me since... I might be a Weeabo or whatever it's called. Oo

Well... I began to learn japanese to play "Endless Summer" (UY's DS game)
I know how to eat WITH chopsticks but it wasn't because of Anime.
I say a lot of japanese words such as curse words and things like "nanda?" etc.
I don't sit on my knees.
I still eat portuguese dishes. In fact, I never tasted japanese food.
Well... maybe if I knew a japanese person I would try to be their friend and eventually ask them about Anime and games.
I don't believe I'm japanese (that would be stupid. Just look at me! xD)
I don't dress in weird clothes. I mean... I'm a tomboy but... I think what I wear is normal.

Nah... false allarm! xD

If this was a quiz this is what it would look like for me.

Do you consider yourself:
a) Otaku
b) Weeaboo (learned something new today) XD
c) Both
d) None of the above

I would answer d)

I like anime and manga... but lets face it that's as far as I go... I like japanese culture... that was the reason I started watching anime... I work in a hotel and I like to learn a little bit of every language... I wouldn't like to imitate japanese people because actually I find them weird... at least in their social ways...

So I think I'm safe... I'm not a weeaboo or otaku... I'm just a Ecchi pervert... XD

LoL... So that's a weeaboo... someone get that girl a japanese psychiatrist!!! XD

I wonder which one is true!?

Like... People are who they want to be right? I don't see her harming anyone (unless that dog that looked like panicking! xD). Like I see weeabos as normal people. Well... she scared me a bit but I wouldn't mind being her friend if she's a good person, you know?

I don't see myself keeping Yen's, wearing cat and etc. ears, do the Haruhi dance, or everytime I'm around a hot person or the person I'm interest in I start behaving like Anime (like making funny expressions or that thing with your hands and so on.

The thing I most do is... imagining Anime stuff like (this may sound really weird) when I had a 12 in History (!!!!) I began imagining like fireworks around me or when something bad happens (like bad luck) I curse and then get like the "it's always me" attitude. xD Oh and when I'm nervous, I usually put my hand in the back of my neck.

I think learning Japanese to watch anime and manga in their original form is otaku rather than webo. Webos just act Japanese just for the sake of it because they think its cool. When an otaku does something anime related its because they enjoy it, not just because they think it makes them look good.

I get the impression that webos are the sort of people that otakus and normal people view with contempt. They are the show offs of the manga world.

I do a number of anime gestures but cause I think it's funny. Though, now I do them almost automatically. I don't reject being 50% French, 25% English, 12.5% Irish, 12.5% Scottish, and being born in Canada.

In fact, I don't eat Japanese food at all.

I just know Anime-related gestures I do because other people notice it and often joke with me about it. I don't even notice I do them.

I never lied about me being portuguese! xD

Like, people are who they are and if they're happy with who they are, good for them, right? =)
