[SOLVED] Add a reply to my own topic
« on: January 30, 2008, 11:26:31 PM »
I did something wrong?

I added a reply to one of my own topic and the forum, instead of opening one another, added all that I wrote to the last one.

Maybe I did some errors?  ???

maybe you should of mistakenly clicked on the "new topic" option that is right next to the "reply" option. make sure you have the proper 1024 x 768  resolution on your diplay and the browser window should be maximized  otherwise you'd be having everything cramped and some options merged

No, I think I know what happened. I've seen it on other forums. It's a method built into the code of the forum that's designed to help prevent spammers. When you post a reply in any thread, and you were already the last one to post in that thread, it prevents you from posting another reply. This forum seems to be set up so that instead of not letting you post at all, it adds whatever you posted to your previous post.

Say if I were to make another reply to this thread after this one, it would add whatever I posted as a reply to this post instead of double-posting (even if the two replies are different).
Excuse me, have you seen my mind? I seem to have misplaced it...

Bingo,

This is done to prevent numerous posting to get a higher postcount and to keep the thread a bit neater...

that gets rid of the double posting, it's a nice trick and this is one of the few forums that I've seen that does that.
Sorry GiovaneDinamitardo, I didn't get ya the first time :?

Actually, from what I've noticed, most phpbb and smf forums do it this way.

Simple Machines Forum. It's what this board is. Notice at the very bottom of the page where it says "Powered by SMF 1.1 RC3"?

Actually, from what I've noticed, most phpbb and smf forums do it this way.

It's not a default option which you can turn off or on. It's a mod which has been active for almost a year or so  :D

Ah, it's been a while since I was trying to work out the forum on my old... rather dead site. I had a phpbb forum. I don't remember any of the options on that. I've never tried working with an SMF forum, so I really don't know. But it's nice to know, and always a good feature to have. :)
