Lum-san's and Ran-chan's hair colors
« on: September 22, 2007, 07:22:16 PM »
I think Lum-san's original hair color was "prismatic" (like a compact disc), but I've seen her with pink hair, blue hair, green hair, and of course, the blue-greenish hair in the anime. Anybody know the specific name of the blue/green color that is used for Lum-san's hair in the anime? I know that's kind of hard because even in the anime, the blue/green color often varied... :?

How about for Ran-chan? The most common answer would probably be pink, but again in the anime, the color varied between pink and red. I think Ran-chan's hair color is blend of pink and red, but I don't know what it is.

Can anybody help me out with this? Thanks!

It's a bit relative...

You say Lum's hair is bluish green, but for me it's just green...

The colors varied a lot with people who drew the anime, so it's hard to tell...

By identifying the specific hair colors for Lum-san and Ran-chan (as depicted in the anime).

But like I mentioned, it's kind of difficult because the colors varied a bit, and as Kroptik mentioned, the interpretation of the colors is kind of relative.

I was hoping someone might say: "oh yeah, Lum-san's hair color is 'blah-blah' and Ran-chan's hair color is 'bleh-bleh'". RGB values would be perfect... :D

I understand what you're asking for, but since Rumiko never stated a color for her work (and since she didn't paint the manga) the people who drew the anime had the liberty to choose the RGB values of Lum's hair. And even within the same picture, RGB values vary a lot, because of shading. So it's impossible to say a specific value.

By the way and out of curiosity: why do you want to know this? Are you planning on doing some fan work??

I guess one could say it's like fan work, but my plan is to order a couple of guitars from the Fender Custom Shop and the Gibson USA Custom Shop. Since it's from the respective Custom Shops, I get to put in the specs I want, but of course, there's the premium price (around $5k each). So before I fork over my deposits, I want to make sure I can provide them a color sample so I won't be disappointed.

I plan to order a Gibson Les Paul Class 5 Quilt Top with a finish of "Ran's hair color". I don't want it to be pink because people will look at me funny... ;D. Here's one with a traditional finish:

I also plan to order a Fender Stratocaster with a finish of "Lum's hair color". The have a color called "Teal Green Metallic" that sort of fits the bill. Here's a pic of that color: http://www.fender.com/customshop/instruments/prod_images/guitars/1506600845_xl.gif. I thought about fixing this one up with a tiger-stripe pickguard and using a tiger guitar strap, but again, people might think I'm nuts (and it's darn hard to find yellow-black tiger colors instead of orange-black tiger colors), so I'll just match the finish to Lum-san's hair color for now... ;D

My long-range goal is to create a bunch of songs in the vein of the Stephanie songs (Every Day, Rock The Planet, Born To Be Free). I won't be singing, but I'll play guitar and produce it. I tell myself this is in preparation for when Urusei Yatsura comes back and continues or gets turned into a movie or something... hey, Ninja Turtles came back, Transformers, Robotech... UY might be next! ;D

You meantioned RGB values in a previous post. So if you choose a pic with the color you like, it's easy to find those values.

If you're looking for a name for the color, then it's going to be a bit harder...

And let us know when those songs are done. I want to hear them. :P

I might have to go through each episode/OVA/movie in my UY DVDs (I have all of them except Beautiful Dreamer), take some screenshots, and get RGB samplings. Then I'll determine the three most common hair colors for Lum-san and Ran-chan and use that to create a 3-D finish (with shades) that changes on viewing angle...that way I'll nail the most common hair color for Lum-san and Ran-chan and take into account the variations... ;D

It might take a couple of years to do the analysis and compile the statistics 8|, but the end results will be so cool... :Y

Why not go just through the different artists?? I think Necron did a post about that...
