Last night I stumbled across a page that was making petitions to get this series starred on channels around the globe. While the page seems to not have been updated in weeks, even months, they do mention the possibility of getting the show starred on space. After having a conversation with Mark, one of the staff members of the space channel, I've found that it would be difficult to get the series shown on space, but it may be possible to have the movies played on there. Here's a transcript of our convesation thus far, edited for easier reading..start from the bottom, that's where the conversation basically started.

-------------------------------------
The movies are a vague possibility, but we have our movie packages up to
2001 already...
That doesn't mean we wouldn't consider adding to it, but it is a longshot.

Aliens")

I've just gone over the FAQ on Spacecast.com concerning Anime, and I've got
an idea.

If you guys can't star regular showings of UY, would it be possible for you
to play the various movies that were made (there were 6 I believe) over the
course of a few weeks?

If this is a possibility, reply telling me so and if/when it'll be launched,
because I sure don't want to miss it. Even if you have to shove it in to 1-2
AM, I'd still probably watch it (and get quite a few other people doing it
as well).

I've also emailed YTV to see if they would star it, but I'm not too sure if
they will, as the closest thing to Anime they really show is Pokemon (blah)
and Sailor Moon.. this stuff is a little bit more mature, both in the
language and in the content (as you probably know, as I heard you were a UY
fan as well).

So check around and see if this would be a possibility, I already enjoy your
channel immensely and would appreciate any help you could provide.

Thanks!

UY is dead in the water- no more production...
As for showing this on SPACE- this is more of a YTV series...

Getting the picture guys? I'm going to email Teletoon as well and see what they can do (their server quite frankly sucks ass, as it seems to be up about as often as I eat, which is only once a day) but we may have space showing the various movies that were released of UY.

Anyways people, I need your help, If anybody out there is willing to provide information that would make obtaining the series easier, as well as any additional information I or Mark would need to know, reply here or email me, and hopefully we can get this off the ground. You'll be sure I'll post here if my efforts prove sucessful, as I'll want everyone else to catch this as well.

Thanks a lot guys, lets see if we can get this going again!

-Parias

It may be a problem getting the rights to show movie #2 Beautiful Dreamer as this was released by Central Park Media (US MANGA CORPS.) rather than AnimEigo who released the other 5 movies and are currently releasing the TV series. (I am not sure who is responsible for TV rights though is it the original producers "KITTY FILMS" or the American Distributors?)

Other than that the NTSC VHS tapes can be obtained from AnimEigo if you live in the US and Canada):
http://www.animeigo.com/Products/Videos/All/UY.html

Or if you live outside the US and Canada try:

Yea, I heard someting about that too.. the vids aren't too expensive either, which is good. I might consider just ordering them (or bugging my local (and only) anime place to get em in so I can rent em) if this thing doesn't work out.

*sigh* Sometimes I wonder why the hell I'm going through all this trouble, I mean, it's just a series, and a pretty old one at that, but there's something that keeps me going..

Oh well, I'll see how it turns out. Just figured I'd let you guys know about this, and like I said, if I make progress I'll post it here so the rest of you guys don't miss out.

Thanks for the tips!

(oh by the way, time for "Stupid questions with Parias, Pt.1".. what the heck is an OAV anyways? There were a lot of OAVs released for Urusei Yatsura, but just what are they?)

WHAT WHAT WHAT?!  UY was gonna be on the SPACE channel?!?!?  Man that would've been so cool.  But they should really have it on Teletoon and play it late at night around 12:00 am till 2:00am.  I'd be watching it for sure.  Right now they have crappy shows such as Undergrads and John Callihans Quads etc.
