UY LD Box Sets - Questions
« on: December 19, 2006, 01:03:06 AM »
Hi there!

I've had this question for a while now, and this is probably the best place to ask.

I am interested to purchase the UY complete 50 LD Box set from japan.
While I started digging for information, I found out that there are two
different sets:
The 'old' set is numbered KFLD-1001~50 and was published in 1990.
Info here: http://www.lddb.com/laserdisc.php?id=175
and here: http://www.shop-yamada.com/rare-ldp-KFLD-1001.htm
That guy's price is insane btw...

AND, apparently there is a second, very late pressing complete box
set, numbered PCLA-150, street date february 2000! And I cannot find
any further info about this at all, nor pictures. Except that the
srp was 231,140 Yen which is quite cheap compared to the 330000 Yen
(without tax even) of the old set. And so I wondered if there are any
substential differeces between these sets.

I feel tempted to try and buy PCLA-150 because the late pressing date
suggests better mastering quality of the discs. But then, why is it so
'cheap' compared to the old set?

Any information very welcome.
Thanks guys (and gals).

Probably the price difference is because of the KFLD-1001~50 is the original version and could be considered a collectors item in Japan... But 5000$ is a bit to much... even for a rare item like that LoL

Hello!

Excuse my ignorance, but I don't buy DVDs.
If I want stuff that's out on DVD, I can download it for $0.00.
Having all Urusei Yatsura episodes on DVD is not impressive at all.
The LD box will weight something like 25 kilos, and it'll be just
HUGE. I like huge things. So, I like LDs. And life is not about getting
stuff cheap (imho).  :)
Pictures of my Animeigo LD Box (containing eps 1-38):

Some more discs among these: http://www.pustan.com/ld/us/index_u.html#uy1

Anyways this discussion kinda went in a completely different
direction, I was asking for info (and am still) and not how I can
get Lum from Best Buy for 10 bucks.

Any information to the initial question is very welcome, thank you very much.

Cheers, Alex.

I already posted some info about why is the price so high on the KFLD-1001~1050...

So if you like huge things why dont you go all the way and pay a huge price for the KFLD-1001~1050... LoL It is a rare Item...

But anyway you seem to already decide on which to buy

Hello FallinG_StaR!

Yes I have seen your post, though it's not the info i am looking for.

The SRP (Suggested Retail Price) of KFLD-1001~50 was 330,000 Yen
in 1990. The SRP for PCLA-150 was 231,140 Yen in 2000.
Those SRPs are printed by the manufacturer onto the boxes themselves.
Sometimes they are only printed onto the so called 'Obi strip'.
I don't think that in 1990, the manufaturer thought 'cool we make this set
super expensive because it's gonna be a collectors item, LoL, and in 2000
we gonna publish another set for much less, LoL.'
Kinda doesn't make sense. LoL

Market price for  KFLD-1001~50 in japan is $1600+ depending on
cosmetics and useage etc. Yamada is known to be an extremely overpriced shop
on many items, LoL, sometimes they have one or two neat things at 'close to normal'
prices. I was putting that url in my first topic for information purposes only, hence
my remark 'That guy's price is insane btw...' LoL.

Thanks anyways.
Really appreciate it.

Btw, do you know whats economic and technological growth???
Let me put things this way, for example in 1990 the LD collection costs 330,000 Yen because like every new technology the LD's for the first years tends to be expensive... and in 2000 with the DVD and other things it wouldn't make sense if they set the same price as 10 years ago because they wouldn't sell it... and probably they made more copies available on the market in 2000 and that could lower the prices too...

Anyway lets forget about this... whatever your option I'm sure you will enjoy it...

Nope sorry never heard about it.

That thought is not that bad, but reality was different in 2000. Due to the fact that DVD was on the market, pressing numbers for LDs were as low as 'pre-order only'. Besides the fact that these big boxsets never sell in large numbers because of the initial price.
I would guess (I don't know, but then in this whole thread everything is guess so far) that less than 500 sets of PCLA-150 exist.
Maybe even only half of that... someone tell me about it.

Anyway lets forget about this...
Yes, because that still did not help answer my question at all, because the question was what the difference between the sets is.
And if anyone had any information at all about PCLA-150. The price issue is not really important.

whatever your option I'm sure you will enjoy it...
I hope so too.
