OK, soooo... Many of us find Lum as the quintessential sexy anime character (OK, Fujiko Mine and Aki Hinata and Kasumi Tendo and some others would qualify, too). However, there's a small group of specialists that call Lum not only the mother of Moe (I can cope with this), but the mother of lolicon as well!  Don't believe me?

http://ogiuemaniax.wordpress.com/2012/06/05/definitions-of-lolicon/

OK: I'll point it out: I started watching UY at 9, became a fan at 16 and I'm still a fan with 29 years old. And I stll think that Lum is plain hot. Will that make me some kind of perv that puts Ataru to shame? I've been talking to my brother, a fellow otaku, about this article. He strogly disagrees. If he spent 70 bucks in buying an exclusive model of Lucy from Fairy Tail (17 years old like Lum, and EVEN MORE WELL-ENDOWED), he says, are they calling him a perv, too? He's 25 BTW. And when I commented about Lum, he responded quite literally with a well...  "Bull...excrement" (he prefers Kagome Higurashi and Nami from One Piece).

Ah, and Uncle Gio, still, if you read me, complete this: "La Supercazzola...."

Heh, had to read that article... Thanks for the link.

Wow, so Urd's a Loli?  Funny she's never looked anywhere near a 12 year-old female to me.  Where's Vladimir Nabokov when you need him?  It just goes to show that because something is in print (or on the Net) that it doesn't have to be correct, or even close. Even a so-called 'expert' can mis-translate things between languages.

Sounds like your typical Misandrist (She Who Hates Males, aka a Hater!) rant, showing her anger towards men who prefer imaginary characters to her.  Get over it woman, it's a fantasy, not reality.

Lum a Loli at 16?  Look up legal marriage age charts. She qualifies in most areas of the world quite readily.  And besides both sets of parents have given their consent. (Lum's in letting her return to Earth after the initial battle was over, and Ataru's in letting them live together under their roof.)  :police:

Thanks for your opinion, Takaholic! In fact, I haven't read "Ah, my goddess" to the point where Urd appears, so my knowledge was limited to Belldandy. Belldandy is a beautiful maiden... But, for my tastes, Urd would steal all the panels!

The age of consent in Spain is, shamefully, only 13 instead of 16 like in most sovereign States in the world, so Lum would be less problematic in my country than in the rest of the world! :police:

Speaking of high schoolers - and I worked in 3 High Schools - it's only when I see an adult actress playing a high school student in a fictional work that I get attracted (I dunno... Well, I hate this film (love the soundtrack, though), but Olivia Newton-John looked great on Grease!). OR... By an idealization from an author! And only if she's 16 of more according to her profile.

So - and the author of the article makes the point, Lolicon meaning has changed (my, there's people who say that showing a female of 19 making out with a man in a manga is ACTUAL LOLICON!). Nowadays I see mainstram manga that put Hideo "Dissapearance Diary is a Masterpiece, read it" Azuma to shame... Take U.Jin. His works are being published by an editorial powerhouse in my country. I don't like him anymore (when I was younger...), but I guess his fans are not all lolis. Im my country, he's a Mainstream author! Oh, well...

BTW, Lum, as drawn by Satoshi Urushirara is smokin' Had to say it.

Lum is not a loli. A loli is generally a flat chested prepubescent girl, Lum is not that.

Anime ages aren't in any way representative of their real age. It's common to have women who are supposedly 16 but they actually look like their in their mid 20s. I'm almost 23 and I get people thinking I'm 17.

Well, I don't know if Urd's a loli but she almost went full on straight shota with that one boy named Shuhei in "Urd's Little Romance."  True, she was in child form herself for most of the episode but she kissed Shuhei in her adult form, I believe, and told him that maybe they'd meet again when he grew a little older.

I've read that the national age of consent in Japan is 13; however many prefectures have individually changed this to at least 16 in their jurisdictions.   Ataru and Lum live in Japan, so there's no real problem legally to their relationship.

Lum's obviously not a loli.  She's supposed to be 16-17 and, as above posters have said, this is within the age of consent in many areas, especially when there is parental permission and support.  And even then, Lum and Ataru's "marriage" has not yet been officiated and made legally binding by ceremony, and certainly not consummated!   Its more of an official engagement with witnesses (Ataru would probably say some sort of arranged marriage he's being forced into... before he got lightning shocked...!)

Lum does say early on that promises of marriage are still taken very legally seriously among her people (as they used to be in most our cultures until not long ago.  You could be literally taken to court and sued for a breach of promise of marriage not so long ago).

As for that above referenced article, I'm going to assume (dangerous, I know) that its probably an American living in someplace where the age of consent is 18.  People here take that very seriously sometimes and get really puritanical about it.  Some places, even two "underage" teenagers like 17 or something can get in a lot of trouble knoodeling.

I think sometimes that people like this forget that while older people enjoy anime, UY and other shows were aimed toward younger people.  Young teens and kids don't want to watch 30-40 somethings running around and being romantic (be like watching their own parents kissing...ewwww! lol )  They want to see people near to their own age or "older", like an older teenager or early 20s.   So of course there's going to be lots of young characters in anime and manga and some of these are going to be portrayed as sexy, flirty, interested in sexy stuff, you know... like normal everyday humans.

Well in the words of someone from my anime society when we were watching Gurren Lagann, "There's some fanservice with Yoko who is a 14 year old girl, but in episode 12 she's 19 which means it's fine!"
