Yeah it's kinda weird that not many people are on. I'm pretty active on the Pachinko website which has hundreds of posts a day. But not much activity here. Still UY is like 30 years old and still fairly popular.

Also a lot of people are on here are from different countries and that means different time zones.

I'd like to see more people on here as well.

I may not say stuff but I still check the new posts.

If you wanna the livelyhood of the site, I suggest trying an abridged series.

I'm doing Gurren Lagann, and some other series right now

What really sucks is that when i signed up like 2 years ago the site was still kinda silent. Sureee there was like 2 or 3 more mems who would make the place a bit livelier, but overall it was still pretty quiet :X I wish i signed up when this place was packed with UY fans ^^

The fact is that UY made it's last episode almost 30 years ago.
It's still popular in Japan which is why they are still making UY Pachinko machines.
Anime fans move on to newer stuff as it becomes available.
I've seen the newer stuff and 99% of it doesn't interest me.
The big Anime convention is next week and my wife dressed up as Lum and I will be going.
Hope to see some new stuff we like.

At least with the pachinko machines you do get to see new UY anime.  :)

Ahh, if only you had been there back in the late 2006 and 2007, those were the golden years of this forum and I am not only saying it because that be the age when I appeared here, hehehe

Out of all anime abridges I seen, Urusei Yatsura had been abridged nor nobody has attempted it. If that happen, then everyone starts acknowledge the show. DBZ abridged by TFS is a hit. I wonder will be a good idea to do an Urusei Yatsura Abridged?

I would think it would be tough to abbreviate UY. It's already short as it is and it has no definitive story arc unlike DBZ which is 200 hours of screaming to power up followed by 200 hours of staring at each other and 1 hour of actual story.

UY is episodic comedy like the 3 stooges (the original ones, not the lame new ones)

You can watch ep 1 of UY then skip a few eps and after the 12 eps you can watch in any order you want and it will not matter as all the characters have been introduced.

How you would abridge that I don't know but I would not be in favor of it.

I saw what they did to Crayon Shin-chan and this would be even worse. The American voice actress for Lum is beyond awful.
At least the British VA's for Lum and Ataru are better because they are funnier.

Remaking Classics never really seems to work with any show.

Yeah, I know and I do agree with you on that one. I am just stated the possibilty of abrigding Urusei Yatsura. Most abridges tend to suck, but with proper planing and coorinated the abridge can be good like TFS did. But it does has unnarrative nonlinear plots.

Shakespeare made crappy stories into good one. It just takes time and a lot of planinng to make a good one.

Well an abridged version just leaves out certain points that are considered unessential to the overall story.
Basically when you make a movie that is based on a book you have to leave out a great deal and yet still tell
your story in 90-120 minutes.

This could be done with UY but it's pointless because UY is just a silly funny comedy with no point at all.

There is no story arc to abridge. The movies are microcosm's of the UY universe and could technically be seen as
an abriged version of a non-linear storyline. Although that analogy is pushing it a bit.  ;)

They would be better off making a new movie while the VA's still sound like the characters and make it based on the
series not on some weird alternate UY universe like most of the UY movies.
