Movie 2 - Beautiful Dreamer
« on: January 24, 2012, 01:01:02 PM »
So I was looking through the forum for a movie 2 thread and there wasn't one so I decided to make one!

I just watched Movie 2 since I'm watching the whole series sequentially by release date and upon finishing episode 99 of the tv show it was time to watch movie 2.

All I can say is that the whole time I was watching the movie I was going "What the heck am I watching?" But not in a bad way. The premise kept me interested throughout the whole movie and had some pretty philosophical ideas I thought. I always like it when a movie has me thinking even when it's over (which is why I like Evangelion so much). I saw in a general UY movie thread on here someone complaining that the idea has been done in many other movies before and whatnot, but I thought this was a fresh perspective on it and I don't know any other iterations that integrated comedy into the mix as well as this did. Not to mention adding mythology into the mix and spoofing many movies as well.

Spoiler (hover to show)

What do you guys think of the movie?

How I understand you  ;) The fault is of Mamoru Oshii, of course. Sometimes you get lost in the movie, because of the complexity, or so, although the story is told in the end. Best movie for me  :)

The 2nd movie is my favorite UY movie and one of my favorite anime movies of all time.

Liked Beautiful Dreamer and think its the second best UY movie

But, I don't get why it's so hyped and considered the best movie. I personally rank the movies in this order

1. Final Chapter
2. Beautiful Dreamer
3. Always my Darling
4. Only You
5. Lum the Forever
6. Remember my Love

If you ask me the 4th movie tried to be too complex and symbolic for its own good, and the 3rd one was just kind of forgettable, and the story was kind of annoying

I think 6th movie is underrated but Ataru is really annoying

And Only You was kind of too, 'girly' for me. Y'know, with the pink opening, really high pitched songs, and the general story.

And the Final Chapter is just, amazing XD
Fanfic - still in planning stage! XD

UY is the best show ever!

Gotta agree with LKMC UY, Movie 5 was my favourite. I liked Beautiful Dreamer, but I actually found it kind of boring for whatever reason. It's soundtrack is especially nice however.
