The music of UruseiYatsura is interesting to listen to, as it was of a period of rapid change in musical technology. The 1st OP's/ED's were still full bands of musicians playing "analog" (for lack of a better term) instruments. Come season 3, it was that first wave of sequencing and programming: everything was done on a keyboard and you have keyboardists trying to play drums on their keyboards (with no clue as to exactly drums are played -- it shows!). By the 5th season, the keyboards are improving (early drum samples were BAAAADDDD!!!), the keyboardists are learning to "play drums" (or drummers are learning to program drum tracks with a keyboard), and old-fashioned instruments area creeping back in to the mix (a "real" bassist here, a "real" drummer there ...). It's an amazing trip through the 1980's music scene. I still enjoy it.

I have to say that the 80's were definitely the most interesting decade for music in my opinion. I have developed an ear for that decade by now. You can really hear the disco influence on the first ED and after that it evolves from your early 80's simple style to the more known mid-80's sound.
