I use DVD Shrink to get the video files from the DVD. I found it over two years ago though.
It might not be as easy to find now.

there are many video converters out there and I can't remember which was good, try handbrake http://handbrake.fr/ DVD shrink is actually dependent to another software Called NERO which you must have installed first before using it and DVD shrink only makes a copy of the DVD with the menus on your hard drive. so basically you have the a folder with all the DVD files in it instead of one video file.
