Darker Than Black
« on: August 14, 2010, 04:39:25 AM »
Ten years ago, an inscrutable and abnormal territory known as Hell's Gate appeared in Tokyo, altering the sky and wreaking havoc on the landscape. The real stars disappeared, replaced by false stars. During this time, people possessing various special abilities emerged, each capable of different supernatural feats - these are known as Contractors. Each fake star has a corresponding Contractor, which reacts to their activities. As such, Contractors are usually identified by their star's Messier catalogue number. Kept secret from the masses, these individuals are known to murder in cold blood, smothering unnecessary emotions with logic and rationale. Their incredible abilities, however, are gained at the cost of their humanity - Contractors are thus named because of an involuntary compulsion to "pay the price" each time their power is used, which can range from eating particular foods and completing meaningless tasks, to self-harm and having their bodies change in peculiar ways. Various nations and organizations around the world train and utilize Contractors as spies and assassins, resulting in violent battles for valuable objects and information. Following the disastrous Heaven's War, United States lost her dominant position as superpower to a mysterious organization named Syndicate. The story revolves around a Chinese contractor codenamed Hei as he undertakes various espionage and assassination missions in Tokyo under the direction of the aforementioned Syndicate.

Great series... The voice work is amazing adding to the nice artwork/animation and a good flow of episodes. I highly recommend it to anyone that's 16 and older... XD... but yes, a great show indeed...

There's 2 seasons and 4 OVA.

Darker than Black: Kuro no Keiyakusha; 25 eps. + OVA (also know as epi. 26)

Darker Than Black: Gaiden; 4 OVA (came out after the end of season 2 but you should watch it before watching season 2) Weird?! Yes indeed. ;D

Darker Than Black: Ryūsei no Gemini; Season 2, 12 episodes

If you give it a try I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I did... And remember kids... always use protection... there's lots of virus out there... in the Internet... XD

I wonder which one is true!?

Well I don't know Fate/Stay Night... but what I know is that DTB is not scary.

Imagine a cross between Fullmetal Alchemist and Soul Eater... add a bit more love and spices... 30min in the oven... and presto... Darker than Black... that or some weirdish monster looking thing because I'm not that good at cooking... XD

thanks for that review, at one point I watched part of the first episode but I wasn't in the mood at the time so I dropped it. I might pick this up again.
I was a little hesitant to write a full review about a particular anime, manga or game but since you've did it, I'll give it a go in the future

DTB is not scary. I had fun watching it. Hei/Lee is a memorable character. Fate/Stay Night is scarier in my opinion (Rider first appearance) but it didn't even scare me one bit.
