WHY A MANGA "MUST" END ?
« on: October 25, 2009, 07:45:27 PM »
I cannot make me a reason: why a manga "must" end?

I don't know if for you is the same but here in Italy a comic ends for 3 reasons:
- Sells too little;
- From the beginning we understand that the story tends to an end;
- The author dies.

For the rest, a comic doesn't end: the best known in my country (Tex Willer), started running shortly after the end of World War II and still is the most sold and read in absolute (Mickey Mouse is even out ranking).

Ok, I know that if Urusei Yatsura was not finished probably we woundn't know masterpieces like Ranma and Inuyasha, but there are about 30 years that Monkey Punch  stories about Lupine III, and each one is a success.

Again, why a manga ends?!?  :'(

Rumiko traditionally does this to her manga, not providing a true ending. Looking at the anime for Urusei Yatsura, Ranma 1/2 and (before it started continuing again) InuYasha, these anime were not fully concluded.

You're right about UY and Ranma 1/2, not for Maison Ikkoku and Inuyasha.

Strange: those are the only 2 manga who have both a "final-final" and, most of all, an HAPPY FINAL !!!

But my question remain the same: WHY A MANGA "MUST" END ?!?

The stories of Go Nagai have all the same "fil rouge", so we know that, at the end, the good will win the evil.

On the contrary, why other stories like "Ace" (Jenny the tennis girl), or "Attack" (Mila & Shiro, 2 hearts into volleyball), or someone else that I'm forgetting "had" to be ended ?!?

And why a saga like Gundam never ends ?!?

Didn't say Maison Ikkoku was one of those inconcluded, and I said that the ANIME for InuYasha was not concluded, but that assumption was before they started making the anime again.

Actually I'm a little confused, your topic asks why manga must end, then u go into asking why UY DIDN'T end.

Honestly, I think Rumiko gets bored of her own work. That's why some of the Mangas she made ended so abruptly when it comes to the ending itself, I think.

This means that any manga-maker gets bored about its own creation ?!?  ???

It can also mean that either the auther wants to try a new approach with a different style, or there's no more ideas to "explore" for those characters.
And finally, whenever anyone writes a story, they usually have an idea on which direction to take it. If that was already achieved, any stories from there on will become boring for the auther if there isn't a fresh new idea to keep the series going.

I kinda made a story (I didn't draw a story or wrote it) and it's all in my head. The only drawings I made were of the 8 main characters. During the last couple years I had so many ideas and so many stories that I made in my head (I know them all lol) and now I don't even know what else to do because I feel like everything is already done. Maybe that's what happens sometimes to artists.

I 110% agree with ya there. Pretty much anything good in terms of entertainment in general always end at some point, because nobody likes to watch a "(insert name here) rip-off" or anything that seems too "cliche" or "unoriginal".

made a story in ur head?

EIGHT main characters???

many stories over the past couple of years?????

OMK... I think I might have a split personality... and one of them is Cata 0.0

lol, honestly though, I have a similar position in my head (but 8 main characters, the odds?)

yes, that was the key aspect of the story.

Another reason a manga could end is cause the ideas have run dry :p

So a SINGLE manga-maker it's a LIMIT ?!?

Example: in Italy many people has drawn Tex Willer during 60 years and many writers have written his story (any year, in summer, the editor release a "giant" cominc realized by a famous designer: in this way it becomes an honor and an hommage for both), I think that the same happen for the X-men.

Do you know if something like this has never happen in Japan ?   ???
