[EXPLAINED] Question about advertising
« on: October 04, 2009, 02:24:49 PM »
Have you been resisting advertising on this site as a way to fund the hosting and work that goes into it?

Well... that would be a good idea... but... besides google ads... what other company (or whatever) would be interested in paying to advertise in a website/forum about Lum? (and anime & manga related stuff)
"It is said that only a fool learns from his own mistakes, a wise man from the mistakes of others."-"A life spent making mistakes is not only more honorable, but more useful than a life spent doing nothing."
I wonder which one is true!?

Anime websites? I was only gonna advertise on YouTube, since I got a few subs there.

Are we talking about the same thing? ;D

I'm presuming this post by Urusei0Yatsura was directed at Lum-cham... about getting "sponsors" for the website to pay some of the bills...

Well that's me... what about you? XD

I was kinda responding to you more, because I didn't quite understand Urusei0Yatsura's question =P (Also guilty for not reading the first post before this post XD)

You thought I was giving you tips about this...

LoL

Don't worry...

Anyway my reaction to this topic was the same as you...

What kinda question is that?!?

Then I noticed this thing...

The World of Urusei Yatsura's Lum > Forum > Forum & Website > Suggestions > Question about advertising

and still took me 5 min... to understand what he was trying to ask or say... XD

I think IGG would be interested since their games are Anime-based.

If you do not believe me,just ask the guys of One Manga

I already have thought of some kind of advertising but the main bad thing are those damned banners which would be all over the place slowing things down. Most of the time they use so-called Flashbanners, I hate those.

Nah, I stick to the donations portion and pay for the hosting myself...

We gotta be honest, the donations aren't really working. :S
Hardly anyone donates...

How about we had some king of cross publicity?
We advertise another website and they advertise ours.
We could do this with some other anime forums dedicated to other animes, and this way we can find out about other specific-anime forum and they can become interested in ours.
Signatured postponed until I cba to make a new one. x.x

I wouldn't like advertising on this site, advertising makes any website look cheap.

I was wondering if it was a conscious decision to not have advertising or not.

As long as the advertisements are anime/manga-related, they will surely blend in. ;)

Yes, it was a conscious decision to not have any advertising at all. It kinda makes me feel connected to a 'sponsor' who eventually WILL decide what will going on on a website.

Since 1996 this website has been free of advertisements and as long as I maintain this great site it will be free of them.

I know the incoming donations aren't that much, but I really appreciate all donations which have been made in the past and in the future. As long as I ca afford it, it will stay online and I hope this will be forever or as long as there are Lum-a-holics visiting here  ;)
