The only gesture I do is \m/. I see it a lot in Ranma 1/2 (I use it as a "rock on" kinda thing, Ranma 1/2 uses it when they get defeated)

A survey of over 4,000 Japanese reveals just how easy it is thought to be to spot a (male) otaku from how he dresses…

The ranking:

1. He has an anime T-shirt

2. He has an anime shopping bag

3. He has a waist pouch (”fanny pack” / “bum bag”)

4. He wears a bandanna (hachimaki)

5. His bag is covered in anime badges

6. His hair is excessively long

7. He wears his rucksack over both shoulders

8. He has big, thick glasses

9. He tucks his shirt/T-shirt into his trousers

10. He wears chemical wash jeans

Well, then I'm not an Otaku by those standards. All I have from Anime merchandising is:

1- Naruto poster (I won a prize. xD)
2- Gaara Sandbag (Naruto/Naruto Shippuuden)
3- Stuffed Shikamaru (Naruto Shippuuden)
4- Sasuke (Naruto)

Now I realize that I have lots of stuff of Naruto and Naruto Shippuuden and NONE of my top "whatever" Anime! >.<

That's only natural... with the amount of merchandise they spit out everyday...

I would consider myself an otaku because I'm always watching anime and think about it daily. When I'm older I would like to go on holiday to Japan although I will probably have to spend quite a while saving up. I would like to try Japanese food as it does looks good, although I probably wouldn't eat it every day.

I don't own any merchandise but that is because they don't sell it in shops outside Japan.

Wrong. You can get merchandise from only shopping and from merchandising tents that exist in Anime/Manga events. I got my Naruto stuff in some of those events.

There's actually some stores in my area that specialize in anime/manga merchandise. Just that most of the stuff there is mainstream.

And, there's always purchasing from Japan. Not that hard to do (ain't the Internet great?) but a little pricey (shipping costs will frighten you). Still, it's how I've acquired a few interesting trinkets and it is SO COOL to buy these and own them!

Presenting ... my harem  ;D

Haruhi Suzumiya "no Gekisou". About 20cm tall. Picture doesn't do her justice; the level of detail is phenominal.

Tsukasa & Kagami Hiiragi (from "LuckyStar")in a NewYear's pose. About 15 cm tall.

Yotsuba Koiwai (from "Yotsuba&!") -- my first figurine. 12 cm tall.

(and more to come ... gotta get the Yui Hirasawa and Mio Akiyama figurines from K-On!)
So Old, I'm Young Again!

Hmm... still buying or reading manga wont make you an otaku "per se"...

I used to buy some manga but some series are just too big... and the money is needed elsewhere... XD So I just like you and other millions of people just get it online... and if I like some chapter... I just print it out at work... XD and even that wont make me an otaku... XD

But this will...

Spoiler (hover to show)

 ;D ;D ;D

I'm joking...

I wish I could buy all that... but like Veehive said... "(shipping costs will frighten you)" And indeed they do... XD
