personally i didn't like because it was more like a normal episode and i think it should have been more exciting.

i watched inukami and the ending was really cool and i though that UY should've had an ending like that

what do you guys (and girls

) think?

Well... I didn't like it that much. If it wasn't for the Ataru & Lum's kiss it would have been just another episode. I think they wanted the ending to be full of energy and comedy instead of that "sad" where all characters are just crying everywhere because they'll never see eachother again or whatever makes you cry after watching the last episode of your favourite series.

I even remember that I was already crying when I was arriving at my home. I only stopped crying when I heard "Lum No Love Song". I began crying again when Lum and Ataru kissed because even if it was the moment that every watcher was waiting for the whole series it reminded me that it was the DAMNED FINALE!

The last episode wasn't how UY ended. Movie 5 was the official ending (although that is obvious and I know what your going at) and if things go well, the new OVA might just take the "ending" spot, though I doubt it...

Anyways, I didn't find anything wrong with the episode. I mean... what exactly was wrong with it? They didn't get married? obviously that couldn't happen...

I didn't like it much... It didn't have "the last episode feeling"... The same feeling when your eating M&M's* and then there's no more and you feel sad and wish you had more... LoL

As for me, I haven't seen the last episode, but from what I've read/seen/heard, the only thing that made it memorable was the fact that Ataru was the one going for the kiss (after Lum insisting a bit). I guess that would make it memorable.

Still, since I haven't seen it, I rather not vote.

i think that the last episodes should've been connected (like when lum lost her memory and there was 2 episodes to that story) ending with them getting married or at least confessing their love for each other in some funny and crazy way

i voted for the fifth option because after seeing other anime endings and taking to account the quality of UY, the ending should have been much better

If I could make episode 196 (the "real" UY ending" xD ) I would make Ataru confess his love for Lum when he thinks he's alone talking to himself loudly and suddenly Lum appears and hears what he said. The rest of the cast hears aswell and the boys react just like they did on episode 195. I wouldn't put them in costumes but in their casual clothing but with more glamour, too. While Ataru is trying to escape from everyone Lum just intercepts Ataru's route and Ataru can't escape but to "knock her out". Lum is of course pretending to be pass out. Everyone stops because Lum is not moving at all. Ataru starts to freak out while everyone accuses Ataru of killing Lum. Lum grabs Ataru by its neck (Ataru was with his both kness down on Lum's side) and kisses him. Lum runs away from Ataru, Ataru chases Lum and runs from the rest of the gang and the gang chases Ataru. Also in the very end every character says bye to the viewer.

i'm not saying that i would get them married i one episode, i'm saying that i would make a chain of events in 4 or 5 episodes ending with them married and maybe a little sample of their married life

It's hard to picture that though... I think it wouldn't be easier to "see" it if they did some kind of time jump (like how several years pass in between an anime and its sequal series such as Dragonball - Dragonball Z - Dragonball GT).

Then the new UY series could be a little more about their kid(s) and their high school life ^_^

Anyway... The last UY episode would be a simple but memorable one and then culminating in 2 special OVA's... Or 3... If I wanted to leave it open for a new series...

I was considering "Boy meet Girl" a poor ending: really Lum would settle to that miserable "declaration of love" ?

When I saw "Forever my Darling" I got really angry: bad designs, rubbish history (just a bad mix of characters !!!), a "trashy" ending and so on.

The worst is that Rumiko still consider UY "a closed chapter of my life".

When I think that in Italy a comic like "Tex Willer" is still published since 1948 and doens't wanna end (I could say the same about Batman, Superman or Lupin III) I get really furious: WHY LUM DOENS'T DESERVE A FURTHER, UNEDIT CHAPTER ?!?

there are many animes that have more than enough quality to reach 1000 episodes but they never do. and other things like batman and superman (like you said gatulon) who are rubbish continue to be made through decades. i would love if animes like uy, inukami, naruto and other good animes had more episodes.

52 Episodes is just a single season series. While that is pretty good for a series to watch on TV, I prefer something longer for watching on the internet.

Considering the format of UY, I don't see a problem with the ending. Urusei Yatsura, both the manga and the anime, followed more of a "Gag of the week" format than modern anime does. With modern anime, you have storylines that span over several episodes, some over entire seasons, and everything fits together. UY is more like the old school cartoons where, as long as you're familiar with the characters, each story is generally self-contained, where you don't have to watch a whole bunch of episodes just to understand what's going on.

However, I voted "I could do better". After all, if I didn't think I could do better, why would I be working on a reimagining of the entire series?

I'm about halfway done writing the first chapter. After taking a little break from writing on it a while back, I actually picked up again last night and got quite a bit done. As long as video games, school, or the other 3 books I'm in various stages of writing don't distract my attention too much, I should have the first chapter done before long. Maybe in the next night or three, even.

Then it just becomes a question of whether or not to post it, or wait until I get the first story arc (which equates to chapters 1 and 3 of the manga, or both parts of episode 1 of the anime, and is going to be 5 or 6 chapters in UYRemix) finished before I post it.

Actually, by the looks of things, I'll have the rough draft of chapter 1 done within the next hour or three. I think I'll probably post this rough to get some early comments and criticisms, and then wait until I finish the first arc before I post the rest of it in a finished state.

Thank you ammo1991 but I'm afraid UY is (unfortunately) an ended chapter of Rumiko's life. It's sad how people throw brilliant stuff away. Also, of course Cherry's jokes, Sakura's inability to understand teens, Ryu's dream of wearing a dress, etc wouldn't be left out from "my" episode.

That's true, but the fact is, fans of the show who already read that chapter would have been caught completely off guard with that scene.

They would be watching the episode thinking "this is it? this is the last episode? what a rip off, this chapter wasn't so great, they could have used this chapter or that chapter" and then they eat their words with that one scene.

It's kinda like the SOS Brigade final episode (episode 13 if you count the first as episode 0). They dragged that thing on forever, it was so annoying. Yuki just sitting their reading a book... but the later ending scenes were decent enough to forgive that boring periods. That... or they tricked us, made us watch boring reading scenes to make the last scene look like a freaking masterpiece.

It was good to see most of the UY characters by the end of episode 195 (we even got a cameo of Kyoko from Maison Ikkoku),a very nostalgic touch if we add that the producers used the first ending song for that scene
