Rock The Planet -- Live
« on: January 04, 2009, 05:43:13 PM »
Steffanie Borges & band perform Rock the Planet. Please note: whoever placed this on YouTube did not edit it for length, and there is nothing past the end of the song's 3-and-a-half-minute performance. Also note: "embedding disabled by request" so I had to post this as a link.

(shout out to the board at furinkan for the link they had, which lead me to this better version)

Edit: this is the link to the version noted on furinkan:

Strange aspect ratio. Of note: the drummer for Steffanie's band has added commentary about the video(which is the only reason I added this link).

AWFUL !!!

Disgusting voice !!!

Sometimes she doesn't follow the rythm !!

I got a suspect: are we sure that Steffanie is the same singer of the opening theme ?!?

I think songs always sound different in a show than on the CD, cause they don't get touched up.

It's called production. Live music has to be mixed on the fly, whereas in a studio, the producers who mix the recording can spend as much time as they want (well, within whatever deadlines are set by the record labels) trying to make it sound perfect. Take it from someone who produced music for several years.

That's why I hate live concerts. Although it's their real unedited voice, most singers usually suck without their voices edited...

I'm not a big fan of concerts either. But that's more because I get nervous in large crowds of strange people than because of live mixing. There are a few artists I can think of that do just as good, if not better, live than they do recorded.

I like live concerts because I get to see some artists dance. Just like Britney Spears. She can dance really good. She sure knows how to give the audience a show! Eminem's awesome live, too. Madonna and Beyonce rock at the stage, too.

Kids still listen to that kinda crap?

Well, I guess if the record labels can't make money on real musicians thanks to piracy, all that's left is the mass produced generic pop acts.

I don't really listen to those people.

I don't have a specific preference, I just listen to what I find catchy and they don't seem to have anything I like, that I know of.

If given the choice, I'll go for a live (concert) recording over a studio recording. Shows me what the band can really do, and there's an extra energy in a live performance that gets squeezed out of most studio recordings. ;D

It's personal opinion. You think it's crap, you say it. You don't like it, you say it. Honestly, I think that singer is crap too, can't I say it?

Like Cata said, art preferences vary from person to person, and I'd rather listen to something else.

I found this:

#Invalid YouTube Link#

The lyrics she sings are a little different.

I think it might be 100% English

35% percent of the songs that I have on my MP3 are Japanese songs. All of them are Anime Openings or Endings. xD

Those are always the best songs ^_^ Even Anime type video games have good opening themes like "Pursing My True Self"

Edit: XD I just remember that song is sung in English, lol. It's still from Japan.

Is she the same singer?

Yes, she's the same singer.

In a recording studio, they can remove, re-record, and mechanically-and-electronically alter a vocal or instrumental "track" to remove mistakes. They can try over and over and over until they & you Get It Right (or maybe piece together all the correct bits into one single correct track). It's like being able to erase and white-out the mistakes from a drawing: you can fix all your mistakes in the recording studio.

Live performance, however, is Right-Here-Right-Now and whatever happens happens. No chance to fix mistakes. PLUS: you have to "perform" on stage which means jumping and dancing and posing and snarling, all of which makes it very hard to sing & play on-pitch and in-time. That's why Brittney and Xtina and Justin and almost all modern pop acts perform to a pre-recorded version of the song and "lip-sync" (fake it).

As for theme musics from anime -- I wholeheartedly agree. Astoundingly good music being crafted for anime. Love the closing theme to Azumanga Daioh and the opening theme to The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (which I was "hipped" to by you-uns --- thanks!). Along with select themes from Our Beloved UruseiYatsura.

Back to you. ;D
