hey... I took a closer look and that scene and she didn't really kiss him. It was more of a hug. I checked and found that that particular part of the hug lasted about 12 frames. That's not even a full second!

If you watch the scene, she basically jumps on to hug him (electric shock included) because he said he'd let her live with him. That snap shot is basically a turn of angle.

Check episode 1's 2nd part "It's Raining Oil in Our Town" if you don't believe me.

I'd say the first force kiss would be in Sakura's Episode, the 2nd being the Christmas Episode (best one to that point XD)

Hi Uruseineo, Hi Kroptic

This is just one single (subliminal) frame that UY animators have included in this show.

The objective of animators is to create doubts in spectator. (indeed, this had open a discussion)  :)

12 frames are too for this subliminal game (1 or 2 are enough, ghosting transition included)

I trust in this theory, but if this is a mistake, I apologize  _/-\o_

Anyway, Uruseineo said right about  other two kisses and Kroptik said right about duration of  kiss  in ep 1
(many scenes in the series contain quick action or single frames to hit the subconscious)

hope you can understand my orrific english  and thank you for reply :)

Interesting theory. But did people even think about "subliminal messages" in the early 1980's?

I could give a quick history of subliminal messages for you, but it'd be easier to send you to a wikipedia page.

Or I can give it to you short and say that the theory behind subliminal messages has been around since 1898.
Excuse me, have you seen my mind? I seem to have misplaced it...

Oooooh, that makes sense ^_^

I've seen things similar to the nose thing before. The kind of split second random pic which I think symbolizes an unexpected hit.

What about those frames that have words that last for much less than a second? These frames have curse words frequently.

in this case not there a particular message.
Is just a quick image for add something more, obviously in japanese culture that  it has a sense.
(maybe, to emphasize that unexpected hit)

Anyway, my question is: why just a frame?

cause if it were any longer it would look like one of those really old super hero cartoons.

You know... with the "POW!" and stuff.

ok...ok....but at least it could be seen to normal speed.

In this way, the human eye and conscious can't assimilate it (instead the sub-conscious can make it)
therefore it's firmly something of subliminal.
Naturally, we can't call "message" in this case.

I'm noticed some things like that though without having to slow it down or stop it. Those wouldn't be Subliminal then.

The nose thing, I belive was intentional, the "forced kiss" probably wasn't.

About some things, I'm noticed too in normal speed.
Anyway, I can't believe that you can see everything (U are human like me after all )^^

Surely You are particulary sensible about videoclips, but remeber that not all persons are like You.

The target of Animators are exactly those persons who absorbs by this tricks.

You know, this conversation has reminded me of something I talked about with one of my cartooning teachers from when I was in art school.

Just for some background, he was one of the animation directors on Disney's Hercules and Pocahontas. Of course, when he told us about that in the class, one of the questions that came up was about the rumors of Disney animators sneaking sexual innuendo into the animations. His response has always stuck with me...

"Animators tend to be lonely and bored individuals."

I believe that this is a much intersting answer.
The success of the series can fill their empty life after all.

It's the cause of this way to create. (to capture more minds as possible)

Its like a artist signature in a painting... but shouldn't the animation director have something to do with it?

They just cant be introducing that without permission... or can they???

He refused to answer any questions on the matter beyond that, so I can't really say it was anything beyond a coy way of saying "figure it out for yourself, cause I'm not telling". But there's a straight dope article on the matter that's worth a read (especially where it says "Artists often put hidden images in their work . . . there are a lot of classical paintings with subliminal skulls and sexual imagery in them. It isn't a recent thing at all.").

When you say "he refuse [...]" You're referring to that teacher, right? Or is this someone different?

Wonder why he wouldn't answer the question... is it some kind of a secret artist thing that artists are sworn to secrecy for?
