that'll take a while... I'd probably finish learning Japanese before someone gets around to translating it XD

Thanks

Its  knid  of  wierd  that  they  ended  up  with  more  drawings  than  they  wanted.  But  some  how  it  makes me  happy.  Because  it  means that  the  people  that  made  the  ova  are  fans  of  the  show. So  it  have  to  be  good.

Let's do a little animation-production math here.

If you do an animated short, and you go "fully-animated", you are making a new drawing for each frame of film. At 24 frames-per-second, 60 seconds per minute, and seven minutes running time (the length of a standard WarnerBrothers' short) ... you wind up with a little over 10,000 individual drawings.

The production houses can save time and money by going with a "limited animation" format: NOT using a new drawing for every frame of film, holding a pose for a couple frames or more, sometimes animating only a mouth or eyes over a stock-steady head pose. The downside to it is that too much "limited" can lead to choppy animation at its extreme end, ruining the experience for the audience.

That the animators of the new UruseiYatsura episode wound up using more drawings than they planned is a very good sign indeed. It means the new episode will be better-made, with more fluid motion from the characters.

You forgot to meantion recicling frames, like when a character is running and you see the background repeating itself.

And I agree that it's a good thing they ended up with more drawings. Can't wait to see the result. And the plot. ;D

The extra drawings are probably from the opening and pre-title scenes...

I wonder which one is true!?

I hadn't seen that intro yet. Absolutely hilarious.

As far as mathing out the UY episode, you're assuming there's only one drawing per frame. Depending on animation techniques, they could be using separate drawings for the characters and backgrounds, instead of just drawing each frame as a single drawing. But recycling character frames, and recycling backgrounds could throw the math off completely.
Excuse me, have you seen my mind? I seem to have misplaced it...
