Urusei Yatsura General Discussion / Re: IT'S BEEN OVER TEN YEARS
« Last post by Jataru on October 26, 2022, 03:59:38 PM »
Soo here's the thing...

I have an old account where I used to upload videos back in 2007, I have a couple of dozen old AMVs from Urusei Yatsura in there, the quality isn't that good but hey it is what it is.

The problem, I don't know why, is that when I try to upload them on my YouTube channel YouTube blocks them, almost everyone and that's bugging me, one even was blocked just because it was deleted by them a long time ago.

So what I'm trying to ask is, where should I upload them, some of them where in the old topic of AMVs of this forum, Vimeo seems a good option.

Vimeo seemed to work for the previous one, I'd go with that if we're just talking about archiving them.  You could also try a google drive (again, for the sake of creating an archive).

Alright, in my day off I'll try to check the AMVs that I have.

I know that I have almost every AMV that chette dizon created and a couple more.

The quality isn't that good tough, I uploaded them around 2007 to a private video account so the quality is questionable.

You see what you get XD

I just can't understand why YouTube doesn't allow to upload the majority of these videos, every copyright in every AMV blocks them from viewership.

RPG Storylines & FanFiction / Urusei Yatsura Fanfiction
« Last post by Jataru on October 25, 2022, 07:11:04 AM »
Although Urusei Yatsura is a popular manga/anime series, has a low number of fanfiction works.

The fact of being an old series, by manga standards 44 years, by anime 41 years doesn't help it.

By numbers, this one's from FF.net, comparing to other notable works of Rumiko Takahashi, the numbers are:

1° Inuyasha - 121K Fanfics
2° Ranma 1/2 - 15.6K Fanfics
3° Urusei Yatsura - 145 Fanfics
4° RIN-NE - 113 Fanfics
5° Maison Ikkoku - 23 Fanfics

The discrepancy between 2nd and 3rd are abysmal, I'm a avid fanfiction reader so I like to read some fanfiction from my favorite series.

I like Inuyasha and Ranma but it's more like, I watched and liked it but I don't identified with it, with Urusei Yatsura I go back watching some favorite episodes over and over again.

I'm kinda surprised with Maison Ikkoku though, with having such a low number of stories.

With the new series I hope that the numbers increase for Urusei Yatsura.

Movies, OAV & TV Series / Filler Episodes
« Last post by Jataru on October 25, 2022, 06:01:51 AM »
The original anime has a lot of episodes but there are 20 anime exclusive episodes or in other words filler episodes.

Basically they don't follow the manga canon and it's an original story.

What I find interesting is that most of if not more than a half of them are rather philosophical, dramatical with less humor in some cases.

Point, 'And Then They Were None!?', I loved the drama and mystery, in a more darker tone than the usually light and comical episodes.

'Terror! Attack of the Slimy Potatoes!!' also a darker theme despite being a parody of a 60's movie 'Matango'.

A rather philosophical episode, 'Pitiful! Mother of Love and Banishment!?', this one is clearly a Mamoru Oshii episode, with many of elements portrayed.

2 part Episodes like 'Scramble! Retrieve Lum!!' and 'Deathmatch! Ataru vs. the Mendō Brigade!!', action packed but still with comical element.

There are other filler episodes really good, romantical like 'Dimensional Switch, Where's Darling!?', comical like 'Deadly! Standup Eating Wars!!', 'Great Vault! Desperate Survival!!' and 'Operation: Peek in the Woman's Bath!'.

Fun fact, of the top 10 ranking episodes portrayed in the 80's, 4 of the are filler episodes.

Please leave your thoughts.

The new Stormtroopers and Torajima.

Too bad Rumiko Takahashi doesn't like it, but she keeps her mouth shut since it's a popular and, if not, a cult movie.

I like the wackiness but I'm mostly attracted to the drama and philosophical part of some episodes and movies.

Katz Hoshi indeed composed for a Studio Ghibli movie : Only Yesterday.
Shame that you can't find many more works besides UY2: BD and OY, because I think he's a good composer with a nice touch, I would like to see/hear more.
Beautiful Dreamer is a GREAT movie but 1/3 of its charm comes from the dreamful and haunting soundtrack.

Good lord has it really been that long!?!  I'm so happy to see this website is still here, other forums I used to go to closed up after Discord became a thing.
I think it's wonderful every visit to see the website still up and like it used to be, even tho it's activity has declined through the years with people moving with their lives or the social media boom. But to know this little corner of the internet still let us relive our favorite series is in fact amazing

I had no idea Lum-chan went through several heart problems, that shocked me and hopefully he is doing okay!

Also, welcome back :)

Geez I remember reading the first chapters back in the days, now I've seen it completed.

Better than some Fanfics I have to say.
