Title: UY in your native language
Post by: janus on August 15, 2007, 06:50:43 AM
Although this can apply to any media, many of our favorite things have been translated to our first language, but do we really like it that way? well for me I like all my media in English, and even though UY  is available in Spanish (my first language,BTW), For some reason I stick to English subs more

I voted other... just because there is no Portuguese speaking version of UY... (there could be a brazilian version but I just don't like brazilian cause they talk like they are hyper or something...) But anyway I think I would stick with the Japanese version with English subs...

It would be fun if UY have a portuguese speaker version (Not Brazilian but really from Portugal) But nothing can beat the original speaker version with English subs and Portuguese (from Portugal) subs. If it had the possibility of UY with portuguese speaker version I would aprove because in the anime the portuguese speaker version is far much better that the brazilian speaker in case of editating the openings songs to the especified language cases of: Pokemon, Cardcaptor Sakura, Sailormoon, Digimon and etc.

And about to choose the voices to the anime caracther that in the case of portuguese speaker version is far better than the others like english and brazilian and is only beated by the original japanese speaker version.

I put some examples here of the brazilian and the portuguese versions :

Pokemon 1ºOpening (Portuguese Version)

Pokemon 1ºOpening (Brazilian Version)

Pokemon Advanced Battle (Portuguese Version)

Pokémon Advanced Battle (Brazilian version)

Sailor Moon Opening (Brazilian Version)

Sailor Moon Opening (Portuguese Version)

Wich one is better ah?

I voted other, there's no swedish dub (thank god) and I wouldn't want
to watch in any other language besides japanese. Except for children's
programming, I don't see any point to dubbing anything into any other
language. I really don't like dubbing  ;D

A small error, senpai, dont worry as i wont start a death complot against ya,anyways i made a small research and it appears that som DB sagas never got "official" dubbing at China, that could explain so strange moments at dubbing

Hey I wouldn't find watching UY in Spanish cause i would understand it better. But I still like the Japanese version as well. The only thing I would prefer in english would be actual shows like smallville.

There's no UY in portuguese. About portuguese dubbings, I have a "strict" policy. I only watch portuguese dubs of Anime that I used to watch when I was a kid. Example: Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball, Digimon, ...

Those are the only exceptions where I don't mind watching dub versions.

Japanese dubbing FTW!

I won't even go for that, for me it's always Japanese with English subs. Only exceptions so far are Medabots (only found it dubbed in english) and Pokemon (I'm watching it dubbed because the names are completely different in Japanese and I'd be too confused xD). I'm hoping I can find Dragon Ball subbed when I decide to watch it (Kai shouldn't be hard, sice it's recent, but the original/Z/GT are going to be a pain to find subbed >_<).

I like to watch Urusei Yatsura with English subtitles. Usually I watch with titles but if the English dub is better like in Trigun I will watch the dub.

I would love a english dubbed version of the tv series and OVAs. I liked Roxanne Beck(AKA Ann Ulrey or Annie Pondell) voice of lum in the 2nd Urusei Yatsura movie. I have checked out the British dubs on youtube and Urusei Yatsura does sound hilarious with British accents, although Lum kind of sounds sexy with a British accent.

for me it has to be original voices. No dubbing it always ends up sounding unnatural and awkward. Especially Japanese to English or Spanish (those are my two languages) it just makes the character seem more realistic too when they're speaking the language they're supposed to. The only anime i can sort of watch in English is Pokemon lol but even that i would prefer in Japanese. I hate how in that anime they make Misty's sisters sound like the biggest airheads ever! it sounds so outta place.

Japanese Kanji comes from Chinese Characters.

(Also, some Japanese manga are based on Chinese history.)

So, not need more translation from Japanese to Chinese for Kanji name.

Not too bad for me. Very few of us actual American fans. If anyone's curious why my English seems different than others here, that's why.

There used to be a button but it seems to be gone now.

However you can still use the feature by typing "[ y o u t u b e ]" before and "[ / y o u t u b e ]" after the link

Honestly I'd be fine watching it dubbed if it had a good dub. I find a lot of comedy anime are funnier dubbed since the script is changed to suit western sensibilities since humour doesn't translate as well over cultures. This is probably why there is no anime that I find very funny, I just find stuff quite funny however I know plenty of people who do like Japanese humour.  I once found a blog saying that they don't find anime very funny but they do for manga and I don't read comedy manga.
