I think that Lum and Ataru would have three children at most. I couldn't see them having 20 or more children (too many mouths to feed), unless Ataru is sexually overactive and Lum is comely beyond words. :D)

Speaking of shocks, that's the reason why he wouldn't have too many kids (its VERY hard to please 20 kids plus their mother, and the unpleased ones would "shockingly" affect their dad).
I do see Mayuka having a brother like 4 years younger or something.
I'll even go further and say Mayuka will marry Shinobu and Inaba's son and have 3 kids, as well as Mayuka's brother marrying Mendo and Asuka's first daughter and having one son.

Well...You know about flashbacks??
Well I sometimes get the reverse of a flashback (I see something that will happen in every detail, like what I hear, see and smell, but I only remember I saw it when the event happens).
Hard to believe I know, but I swear it's the truth. Not even my mom believes it (she says its flashbacks. :-\)

An artist (I think the name is Genta Heyshi) has been making a continuation of the UY story, mostly as a personal project. Genta's comics (mostly one-pagers) project Lum & Ataru into a future about 12 years past the end of the original series: Lum & Ataru are now married (mostly happily) and they have a 6-year-old daughter Mayuka.
You can find these comics in the Gallery sections of this site & they pop up regularly in the Random Gallery Image box over to the left, or you can search the WWW for Genta's Archive Mound (Japanese language only).
Genta's work is very well done. Excellent draftsmanship.

Well assuming they CAN breed, I'd say none, but not because it would ruin her body, but because of what that child would become. A lightning powered pervert that can fly? Scary. So instead I put the closest option (the one for one).

I say only one and after that Ataru would be glad they only have one because taking after kids is hard work. Going on what Sidzero said that is if Lum kept the child on a loose leash, and let him (cause I think if its a girl she'll take after Lum) go around with Ataru on one of his "outings". Just my thoughts.

But I don't think Ataru's family can have enough money to have many children. Honestly, I think Lum just want's children, not a specific number.
Also, since having/raising a child is (or should be) the ultimate proof of love between a couple, Lum may see it as a way for Ataru to proove his love for her, therefore her desire to have children.

re: Genta's Archive Mound being in Japanese only: well, gotta start learning somewhere! I've made my first blundering attempts at translation with a couple of the Mayuka one-pagers. Strictly "hunt-and-peck" at this point. Not much actual success, but I stumbled onto a few nuggets: e.g: I think Shinobu's son's name is Hiro (please correct me if I'm wrong!).
And, as for The Vote: I would vote for 2 children if the choice presented itself. Which it didn't. But that's okay, too.

I know what you mean, lilwiz. Since I'm just beginning that long odyssey of Learning Japanese (I-Think-I'm-Lear-ning-Ja-pa-nese-I-Re-ally-Think-So)*, I find that I'm blindly clicking on anything to see where it goes on the GAM site. Here's what little I've found:
Go to Genta's Archive Mound (http://www.niji.jp/home/hey-gen/), of course :).
Click on "ENTER" (up at the top of the page -- about the only English you'll find there).
A set of solid-color tabs (not exactly "tab" shaped, 'though: they're simple rectangular blocks of color with white script on them) will then appear across the top: select the RED one.
Once the RED index page (red characters on a white background) appears, look over to the left: there will be a short list of choices, arranged vertically. Choose the first or second ones in this list (the second one in this list has the English word "TOP" in it).
The first of these choices leads to an index of Genta's cartoons and illustrations. The second one (again, the one with "TOP" in its copy) leads to another index, primarily illustrations (sometimes outside the UruseiYatsura canon).
There are undoubtedly many other places in Genta's Archive Mound where more comics and illustrations are found ... but I haven't found them yet!

No kids, dude! They'll be 17 forever, and never stop having crazy adventures. Half the point of UY is that the gang never grows up - An adult Lum and Ataru is a contradiction in terms, like a triangle with four sides. The series is, like, the opposite of the portrait of Dorian Grey.

I would've gone with 2 too if I could (one girl and one boy) which would lead to three children during their lifetime (if you count the fairy Imo-chan (http://www.lum-chan.com/index.php?topic=1318.0)). Of course the daughter would be Mayuka, which their son being about 3-4 years younger then her.
