Title: Lum is my inspiration of becoming a novelist
Post by: YaeGron Maxo7 on December 01, 2006, 09:06:45 AM
Heh, first time post. Back when I was 5 my older brother was about 14 and wanting to become an artist. His first big style that he mimic in his great ardous quest in becoming an artist was anime. Therefore I sat in the back watching great old animes such as Starblazers and such. I finally got my dad to take me to what was then Errelds (sp?) which would later become BlockBuster Video. We went to the anime section which was pretty small in comparisonto the other sections. My dad said I could rent one VHS and of course, I picked the first 4 episodes of Lum. When I got home in our small Virginia house in the suburbs I ran up to the only VHS player that was secretive enough to where I wouldnt disturb everyone else. At the time I could not read, so the subtitles didnt help at all and of course the Japanesse language was untangible to me and still is to this day. I watched the VHS of lum pretty much all that week until it was time to take it back. I rented it again. And again. I couldnt get my mind off of such a unique form of cartoon. Unfortunatly the topless nudity ended my lum spree because at the time my mom was an overprotective annoyance (Bless her). Since I could not read at the time I did not know the title of the anime. I would later learn to read in the 4th grade. By that time I had moved to Houston, Texas. Around my 12th birthday I wanted to try and find my self as most kids growing up do. I thought if I could find one of the biggest memory that impacted my life, what would it be? It took me a year to find out. At this time in my life I had come up with several ideas, mostly at night where I would toss in turn in bed trying to go to sleep (Meds for ADHD will explain the insomnia). Most of these storys so to speak were based off the quirky japanese style of cartoons. I realized that the video that I had watched when I was 5 had made a bigger impact that I had imagined. So I spent the majority of my teenage years looking for clues to the elusive anime that had inspired my creative side. I finally found a clue during my sophmore year in high school. I had rented a manga labled Ranma 1/2 from the school library. I found the the style of how everything played very amusing and some what familure. Then when I lookied at the back page I saw her. None other then Lum her self was being advertised on the back (or rather front of the manga since it was published in true japanesse form). I went to barns and nobel and asked if they had any copies of Lum in stock. They unfortunatly didnt. I'm current 19, I'll turn 20 this january. I am proud to say that today, Friday, December 1 2006, That I have found the that missing part of me. The missing link from childhood that lingers just out of our reach. I am studying to become a network security techy but my real job will be a novelist. My stories are mine, My inspiration is lum.

And thus ends my first post on the web site that opened it all

At the present I don't know enough about lum to make a fanfiction. But I can say anime in general made me want to write. Lum just so happens to be my fist anime that I had ever seen. Currently I'm trying to find as many DVD's as possible to start my collection. I'm having problems finding the anime though. Is there a place that still sells lum dvd's?

If you want to buy them online just check www.animeigo.com (http://www.animeigo.com). You'll need to pay 500$ for the whole collection though (10 for DVD, 50 DVDs). Plus 50$ for 5 of the 6 movies and 60$ for the OVAs.
If you want to download them though, just check the torrents at www.boxtorrents.com (http://www.boxtorrents.com).
