I run a video store (small) and saw the ads for the animego series in the industry magazine...read the review and tore out the pictures of Lum. Then, months later I went ahead and ordered a couple...now we rent a ton of Lum and we've got Lum stuff all around the store!

By the way, what is the program used to read the episodes that can be download from these site, and where can I find them? :?

My first time I saw the lum series was when I was about 5 years old. I rented it from what was then called Errelds(sp?) I fell in love with it within the first 5 min. It was my first anime. Unfortunatly my mom didnt want me watching "lewd cartoons" so basically was forces to give up watching anime in general. But now that I'm 19 and finally know what the series is ( I couldnt read back then and I didnt figure out what the series was called till my sophmore year in high school) I'm about to freakin buy every DVD I can find on the series.

I first saw Lum and Urusei Yatsura at various science fiction conventions. I did not appreciate it right away--zany as it was--especially when seen out of order. It seemed so light weight and comedy only.

After a few dozen episodes, I watched and learned how wonderfully devoted Lum was, her eagerness to please her "beau", and the enjoyable exotic nature of the show. This won me over completely.

Although I like Video Girl Ai, Nuku-Nuku, and others, it is always to Lum that I return--even after twenty years.

I first saw Lum when I was looking at the Urusei Yatsura album on www.animegalleries.net. I honestly did not think much of the show at the time. I don't think I fell in love with her until I stumbled across Project ILM. It was there that I discovered how admirable and wonderful Lum really was.

Well one time when I was looking for info about Inu-Yasha and Ranma I stumbled with this: http://furinkan.com/ (http://furinkan.com/)
I noticed along my two favorite series was this green haired girl. I clicked on her face and read the overview and fell madly in love with it ever since :)

The first time I saw Lum was the pic of her at absoluteanime.com but I didn't know anything about her or the show so I simply moved on. Later I came across Ranma and when I heard about Shampoo, just clips, I thought she was the on in the pic.

It wasn't until I found lumcolette's One Day One Dream AMV for Urusei Yatsura that I found out that everything Urusei Yatsura I saw was in reality not Ranma at all. I watched the amv cause the pic on the vid was (in my head at the time) A guy sitting with a green haired Shampoo (She had green hair in Ranma opening 1 too) and I assumed it was Shampoo sitting with Ranma.

So after watching the amv I realized this wasn't Ranma. Almost immediately I searched the anime title on youtube and began watching the show. This was almost one year ago and it became my favorite show. Now, I upload the episodes on youtube and veoh. I would like to upload them here but I can't find anything that lets me do that.

I've saw Lamù for the first time on 1984 on a commercial italian TV.

IT WAS LIKE A SHOCK: FIRST EPISODE, FIRST TOPLESS SCENE (when Ataru rip the bra of Lamù) !!!

Since ever, it was the first time that we saw a cartoon where the main trama was totally based on sexual attraction.

Since that moment I'm living for Lamù and Ataru became my idol.

Recently I've found all the episodes of the saga on youtube and, after few days, I was able to realize my ancestral dream: to make a little tale of Ataru and Lamù on my own.

The legend of "GiovaneDinamitardo" was born.......  ;D ;D ;D

Um, why not? Anime and cartoons ARE the same thing. Even in japan, they refer to american cartoons as anime.
Title: Re: when did you first see lum?
Post by: janus on February 25, 2008, 04:39:25 PM
and they even call comics manga, but calling anime cartoons would mean that cartoons are in the same level as anime

Quote from: Lum-chan
Secondly, Japanese manga and anime come in all types, for all sorts of people. Unlike the U.S., which generally seems to believe that "comics are for kids," Japanese manga-ka (manga writers) write for everyone from innocent young children to perverted sex-starved men. But even the kiddie stuff tends not to be as simple-minded as the American versions.

theres a huge difference

and everyone knows what a otaku does when someone calls them cartoons

Exactly. Most people will be mad at you if you call them cartoons instead of animes.

I'd say cartoons could be called animes, but not the other way around. (Cartoons are still animated, right?)

I get mad if someone call Cartoon to Anime. That's the Otaku way, I guess.

But what happens to Otaku when they try and break the kneecaps of someone who could kill another man without flinching, and usually doesn't go out in public without an instrument of some sort that can be used to do so?

Personally, I could care less what Otaku whine about (and we all know that's all they're really capable of anyway), anime are cartoons. Whether cartoons are anime... well, to us english speakers it's debatable and I'll leave it at that, though to japanese... they are.

Non-japanese otaku are weird about things anyway. Though really, japanese otaku are worse.

Offtopic: Tsk,tsk, tsk,One question,Was this topic made for discussing the Otaku Code about how to call animes? I dont think so

Last time i checked, this was about when we saw UY the first time, dat moment that would help establish our love for this wonderful saga, and not the start of World War IV in the uy forum

Lets establish some things,shall we?

1.-No need to offend otakus, sidzero, you may say the truth in some instances, but a degree of truth doesnt make us into society judges.Just take it easy, amigo

2.-No need to over-react,my brothers-in-lum (you know who ya are),just because someone called cartoons to anime. There are people that will never learn (as Mills23) its meaningful value, yet there are people as Giovanni, who truly like the series and are still learning.Besides, where are you gonna get bullets to kneecap people?,bullets price has gone too expensive,y`know

3.-Remain On-Topic and if ya feel like kicking each other ass, just go to the nightmare battle,it is better a faux (fake) slugfest than an idealistic crusade that would just divide the forum members

Thanks for yer attention, have a nice day  :)

In italian "anime" mean "souls"

the first time i saw her was on sic radical here in portugal about 5 or 4 years ago. i was searching for something interesting to watch and then i saw her, she was the most beautiful anime girl that i had ever seen and so i watched the episode ( i think it was that one in which she has an affair with a dolfin xD) and i loved it so i rushed to my computer and saw the schedules and during 3 months of vacations i would wake up at 4 am just to see an episode then i would go back to sleep and at 5 pm i would watch another episode. after those 3 months uy went off the air and it was only 7 months ago that i saw her on youtube, i was so happy that in only 2 months i saw all the episodes.
Urusei Yatsura Forever!
Title: Re: when did you first see lum?
Post by: Lord Caim on July 16, 2008, 05:35:22 AM
well originally i had seen it various times growing up in the 80's and 90's. friends watched it, anime was in, etc. so i had seen and heard of it. but then back in 99 when my gf was finding a good song for us, she happened across the perfect song, with a nice, but random(at the time) anime for video. so she sends it to me. i wasn't(and still don't consider myself) an anime fan, but this one in particular seemed very nice, and at least somewhat funny. so i spend about 4 months trying to find out what the anime was. I'm about to give up searching for it, and my Music tutor at the time sends me a God given link depicting a comic strip of Ataru being himself(pervy), along with his typical joke at me about being a perv.(it was just a JOKE!) so me being me, desperate, nearly beat him half to death(just kidding) to get the name of the anime Urusei Yatsura. so i search for forever, still cannot find anything big about it, other than it was what i wanted and it existed.
a year or so went by, i saw a movie, a few episodes, and read a volume or 2 of the manga, and then i got really busy. by the time 2001 rolls around, i had probably forgotten what UY was. this continued until 2005, when i was getting ready to get a new computer, i opened up my favorites(which had probably collected its weight in 'computer dust') and i see UY, and so i make it a point to watch more of it, later. another year rolls by, and its in my new computer, collecting dust, being forgotten about. Christmas of 06 rolls around, and i get another comic strip from good ol' josh the music man. i am reminded of UY once again, i go search for it and find little more then i did last time. so i go down to my library, block buster, etc and look, but it was not there. finally after a very long time, I'm at some sort of small town anime convention, with my little bro. not their for myself not looking for anything. i walk by a stand and see a little figurine of miss Lum. i bought the store out of its manga(a random half of the series) and a few dvds.
from that point on i was hooked.  recently I've seen most all of the episodes, movies, ova's, and manga. thanks to various people at youtube, and Veoh. so for the past 3 months I've been obsessing over it, finding new sites, and finding where to download them. i found nice little boxtorrents.com which game me all of UY everything. OVA, Movies, whole manga, every episode, all of the music box. etc. problem was. i don't have enough space on my computer for all of it. so i have to do various things to get more space on my junk computer so that it can download, the 40 GB series. that is my current dilemma with UY...
and that's how my life came to revolve around UY, and Lum.

May i join you guy and girl?( it hard to see girl here)

The first time i see UY was on an abroad channel, Animax channel. I fell for it right after first episode. It show at 23.00 pm in my country's time and at that time i was a pupil and my parents were hard about stay up late. Because of that sometime i have to persuaded them very much to see it. They reshow it on the morning but it the same time i have prepared for school.

They only showed season 1 at that time and i didn't know UY had so much episode so i try to see it again and again just to see its end until they stop showed it. That the most thing confused my mind when i think back about it. It about three years ago.

Once again my love for UY rise when i see its manga was published my a good publisher in my country, well translated, high quality image.

I searched web day by day until i download all manga chapter. Done with manga, i searched for anime until i found this http://www.veoh.com/. The time i found it, it had UY but no English
subtitle. I had to download it until the heaven open the light for me.

I found UruseiNeo's collection. You can understand the feeling of someone living in dark for long time now see the light, can't you? I so happy at that time, so so so so so happy.
Thank LumUrusei you are my god.

Now i have most chapters of UY and just matter of time before i have OVA and movie.

UY is the only thing now in my ming and my heart.

Long live Urusei Yatsura. _/-\o_ _/-\o_ _/-\o_ _/-\o_

For me it was the manga - I bought one of the Viz editions back in high school, and then when I spent a summer in Japan, my host dad owned the whole series, and I started reading from the beginning.  I forgot about it for a little bit, but then when I was about to graduate from high school, I was getting really into Maison Ikkoku.  I'd rented Beautiful Dreamer and bought one of the Animeigo tapes, but still always felt UY was this obscure, if classic, series I'd never be able to get a hold of.  Nevertheless, once I'd read all the MI I could find, I thought to myself, "You know what else is a good Takahashi series? Urusei Yatsura!"  I picked up the one book I'd bought a year before, and have been hooked ever since.  UY is pure magic.

Likely random pics on geocities or something. Heard her name was Lum at some point years ago, but didn't look it up. So I had no idea about UY until last week. For now I just have the manga on my computer. Not finished with it yet. I'll get to the anime afterward.

ranma 1/2? yeah, used to own a dvd season. apparently was stolen before I got to watch the whole set.

the first time i saw lum it was in was the theme on youTube.com so i went to ask.com and typed urusei yatsura and now its my fave show!kinda werid huh!
Yeah same for me. She looked interesting, but then I saw the anime name and was thinking, what?? But I eventually got over it and realized it meant obnoxious aliens, which makes total sense.

The first see? I searched for Ranma 1/2 long time ago, because i haven't watched completed yet and the german Ranma 1/2 have only 80 of 161 episodes dubbed and the german dvd version have NOT the japanese original version with german subs. So i found the Ranma 1/2 OVAs on the internet and later the It's a Rumic World Opening, because there was a new Ranma 1/2 and Inuyasha OVA in production. I saw Lum first in the It's a Rumic World Opening, but nobody of German users knows the name of the series, but that wasn't really interested in the beginning.

Later 2009 i saw the trailers of the new Ranma 1/2 and Inuyasha OVA and just i was interested of the "unknown" ova, but i found out, because someone wrote in the German wiki article of Ranma 1/2 some points about Urusei Yatsura. I found the new ova trailer of Urusei Yatsura and that was the point, since that i really like that. I watched some episodes on youtube, the plots are really better than ranma 1/2, later i bought dvds, because i'm not the user, who watched them all illegaly in the internet, the video quality was really bad that and found some special offer of the first two french Urusei Yatsura DVD Boxsets for only 9.99 Euro per 26 episodes. The problem was only the dvds are only with french subtitles and haven't french knowledges, but this is not the problem, i load the english subtitle files (not the video) and put them on the DVD :D.

Urusei Yatsura is the first anime, who i get the dvds from many countries, since Germany haven't this: France, United Kingdom, United States, Italy, Spain and Japan and the anime they watched generally in Japanese dub. Since that i liked more the way to watched the japanese dub and for me it is really interesting about the comparsion of the german and japanese Ranma 1/2 or Inuyasha.

I saw Lum for the first time when it aired on Portugal around 2004... from 2004 until now, I'm still a Lum addicted

And thanks to Lum to make me discover anime like Ranma or Maison Ikkoku  :)

I've seen her a few times before I even knew who she was. I actually totally forgot how I became a fan of the series, but it was sometime in May I think.

On episode 1 of Urusei Yatsura on youtube and I watched the entire show on there. It was the first anime I watched since Pokemon and Digimon, Pokemon when I was a child. I found out what anime was because I read Pokemon World magazine. That got me to watch a bit of Ranma 1/2. I want to buy Ranma 1/2 on DVD but I can't because it hasn't been licensed in the Europe.

I first saw posters of Lum in various store windows while on a business trip to Japan back in the summer of 1986.  I didn't know her name, but noticed there seemed to be posters and pictures of that green-haired girl everywhere!

And then a year or so later, a friend loaned me some of his Nth generation video tapes of the UY anime.... and I could have kicked my own butt for not getting any of those posters.

I first saw Lum while rummaging through videos at my grandmas house. I found all 6 Urusei Yatsura movies and always thought the green haired girl looked interesting. It was several years later though when I decided to search it up. I watched Only You and Beautiful Dreamer before realising it was originally a TV series. So I watched episode 1 on YouTube, got addicted, and here I am now with 195 episodes, 6 movies and 11 OVAs watched, planning to watch the last one tonight and then I'll have finished Urusei Yatsura :(
