Here's a chess game with Urusei Yatsura's characters. I loaded the jap. character set and still can't get consistent loading with the game. Sometimes it works ok for a bunch of moves and sometimes I can't even get the characters to show up. Maybe you can tell me if it works for you?

in games moving objects a seperate from the background, similar to anime, have you ever noticed that in some anime you can tell the difference between something moving, based upon colour and texture. a sprites is such moving object that is programmed with certain movements (example: lifting an arm or walking, punching etc.) these can be put on a layer infront of the background, also known as a foreground. I tried playing it (on an emulator) but I can't understand a thing.

This is where you get the Rom (the game). To download it click on "downloads", then go to page 3 and search for "urusei". Then choose DL2 and you'll be in the download page (just ignore the pop-up here, don't even try to close it).
There's a problem though... The game has no sound and it's in Japanese (since there's no other version).

Yes I understand reading simplefied (RÅmaji) japanese (some words) but not much of hiragana, katakana and kanji.

Katakana is really easy once you get the way they read english words...
...hiragana is very easy to read phonetically, but you have to translate the result in english, and that's the hard part...
...kanji are the real pain in the ass...I know only about 100 of them, and it would place me in kindergarten or 1st elementary school... =(

-Flight Ability (7 seconds of flight)
-Rising Shock Fist (her fist glows and she performs a similar move as Shoryuken)
-Power Up or Darling no Baka booster
*Heavenly Retribution (sends 8 lightning balls then creates some kind og huge electric blast at end)
*Calling Daddy (summons 7 ufos that crash in the opponent)
**Maximum Expression Of Love (grabs opponent and charges him up with am electric explosion,ravages 60-70 % of life)
i still need some sprites,plus sound files and some video scenes (for intro and ending)

Well, why not? There are tons of games about so many anime...even about Negima, Zatchbell, Full Metal Alchemist...even the Simpsons!!!
With cell-shading cg they can do almost anything about anime chara and bg, Naruto game for Xbox360 is the demostration: good gameplay, but impressive graphics...sometimes it seems even better than anime!!
With such powerfull machines they could assemble easily every inch of Tomobiki, and characters themselves would be far too easy to create!
...the real problem would be another one: the gameplay!
Naruto, Dragonball, Bleach, Inuyasha, even Ranma...platform and/or beat'em up, quite obvious!!
...but Urusei Yatsura? Don't even dare to think about a beat'em up!!! I cannot think about Lum being hit by someone!!! :(
Besides that, I think that a simple beat'em up wouldn't be the right style for a UY game!
It's not important to beat, but to HUNT!!!
Adventure, puzzle, espionage tactics, RPG...all of this genres could be melted in a single game with a lot of different chapters and sub-games, and playing through them could lead you to a good/bad ending depending on how did you played and/or which choice you made...
To complete the mix it would be necessary a lot of good animation for the intro, the ending and various transition scenes...a good plot and a massive, detailed and PERFECT programming job!!!...
...and, as we tuscans say over here, an oil flask!! ::)

Lol you have really tough this through xD. I like your ideas and I think that a uy game should have all those things. It has the potencial to be a best-seller. If there were more uy games for ps2 then there would be a lot more uy fans and that would lead to the production of more games and so :)

Heh, I love videogames...I started playing with arcades when I was 11 (Moon Cresta, Space invaders, Galaga...), then I got a C64, an Amiga 500, Amiga 1200, SuperNes, Megadrive, MegaCD, PcEngine, PSX, PS2, PCFX, Saturn, Dreamcast, XBOX, Gamecube, XBOX360 and NintendoDS! Quite obviously, I don't play too much with PC... ^^;
I don't think I could live (easily) without videogames... :P

yes i fear that too but it's almost impossible to make a bad uy game with today's technologies, for example, dragonball, naruto, rogue galaxy, kingdom hearts are really well made it's almost like you're actually playing anime episodes.

True, they are all good games, but there are a lot of unworthy games out there...Inuyasha's RPG is one of them!!!
I like RPG, I like Inuyasha and I like anime games, but that mix wasn't good enough for me...the story wasn't too bad (but it could be far better than that!) but the graphic was useless!! Characters were deformed all the time (bosses too!) and the battle didn't seem serious at all!! Random encounters happened so often that the hard part wasn't beat the boss but to find him...this way the game becomes boring!!!
The best part of the game was the anime part in the intro...but that's the only animation of the game!!!
...sorry, but they could do much, much, MUCH better!!
And if this is the way they could realize a UY game...I would buy it anyway, but with a great sadness...

We need to gather an army and ask/demand Rumiko Takahashi (or whoever is in charge in doing anime videogames) to greenlight a great UY videogame for the ps2 or the next-gen consoles

No, I think the best you can get on a pc is a flash-game by some skilled fan, but is quite difficult as well...
Big houses as Square Enix would product only a game very complex and expensive in production, and I think a UY game would be something a lot simpler (too bad!) more likely to be produced by some minor house, like D3 or similar!

take a look for the Galaxy Angel sim-date game, and you'll see one similar concept, but more word safe, would be nice. :P

Great company, they made Dragon Quest VIII and Dark Chronicle, two of my favourite games. ;D
Still I can't think of a good gamestyle for a UY game besides a Sim-Date. :S

I think Ataru's abilities shown during his girl hunting sessions would be enough for a scrolling beat'em-up (Double Dragon style); you must hit or avoid enemies (various Tomobiki's people) and catch the girls as bonus, and at the end of each level you must fight with a boss (Megane, Mendo, Ten...) or grab a girl (Shinobu, Sakura, Benten...)! The last level could be based on the Last movie, ending with the tag battle with Lum!
It's just a simple idea I just had, I guess it's possible to do much better than that, but it's still an interesting idea... ^^

Ten, Ryoko and Cherry wouldn't be bosses but a kind of bonus or special weapons, the real boss would be Mendo on his Leopard with all the Mendou's army!

Some weeks ago I played the Simpsons game on Xbox360 and I must say it was really well done!
A 3d platform with various side quests, time attacks and several chapters united by a great common level: Springfield itself!
The various levels were slightly different one from another and sometimes they were adapted to a different gameplay, like the JOUST level!
A similar concept could be used for UY, IMHO, with Tomobikichou as common level and various anime episodes (or movies) as chapters...

Those are good ideas guys but I think that we are never going to play that game if someone release it.
We can't hope for a console game or those complex game (I don't even own a console, i'm a proud PC gamer lol) and even if it is released (UY is still famous in japan, they did "endless summer" not so much time ago) it is gonna be in jappanise.... DAMN them! do they just don't like me or my money? (lol) I just don't understand why rumiko doesn't want the game to be translated and sold in europe or the states....
anyway, we should looking for a good dating sim for the pc.
I know that the dating sim could be very repetitive, but because they don't have very good background stories while UY have.
Hmm there are 2 possibilities:
1) like endless summer you are ataru and you have to go girl hunting until you "choose" a girl at the end of the game. Maybe the game could start when Lum hasn't yet come to earth, and your only opportunity is Shinobu (with casual girl hunting too). But then Lum comes to earth and everything starts. You already have very high relationship points with shinobu, but with Lum attitude you keep loosing 'em. As the relationship with one of those two rises, more girls become aviable (benten, ran, Oyuki...), but be warned... if you manage to date with one of them, the other girls (specialy the ones with more relation points) are going to be furious and they'll try to ruin the date (minigames like trying to dodge Lums' lightings or more complex minigames).
2) you create your own character. You have just moved with your family at Tomobiki and you start to meet the strange inhabitats of that city.
Dating is a bit hard, the people have their "routine" and it's hard to change it (you are a newcomer, usually people don't trust you so much), but if you do the right things you might be able to become part of the UY world ^^

Humm it could be easy if we use the graphics from the anime (for exemple, if we need a Lum figure, we take it directly from the anime and paste it on the game)... but still we need someone who's good at programming.
If we try to do something very "cool" like new picture made by ourselves or other fan artist... well it could take a little longer but the final product will be awsome!
We should contact some flashgames site... maybe some simdate game creators too, if we are lucky they could get interessed in the project...
But if you want my opinion, we should start with some game translation (esaier than makeing a whole new game).
I've got in mind a "youtube version" for endless summer:
The videos area easier to translate than the real game, we could just paste a translated text upon the jappanese one and when there's a choice for the player we could make 2 different vidoes... ok I know it's gonna be a HUGE work with HUGE of different videos depending on each players choice but if we haven't got a good game programmer... I think it's the best thing we can get :\
