Title: Mamoru Oshii
Post by: Oldfan on August 09, 2017, 05:58:53 AM
The man that gave us about half the TV series and the first two movies turned 66 today.

Amusingly enough, the directors that followed after him for the TV series followed his lead on how to develop as a whole. The same can't be said for the movies though, at least not 4 and 6.

Happy birthday to Mr. Oshii! The first two movies were always the strongest ones, in my opinion. Funny how he went on to direct the '95 Ghost in the Shell film.

They were pretty much the strongest perhaps, but they were the most opposite in nature.

And to think Rumiko Takahashi didn't care so much for Beautiful Dreamer.

Yeah, I like how Only You actually felt like an Urusei Yatsura episode; so I see why Rumiko approved of it the most.
Beautiful Dreamer is a great film in its own way, but took itself more seriously.

She did approve of The Final Chapter, and she was okay with Remember My Love.

It was Lum the Forever and Always My Darling she pretty much disliked and that's been cited as the reason there was nothing else made - until 2008 that is.
