Do you think it will? Personally I hope it will be.

I think that any fan of R.T. that now is about 40 years old wants it, I don'w know the youngest generations: lots of boys who are about 20 years old know everything about Ranma, Inuyasha, Rumic World and Rinne but when you ask them "so you like UY too?" they answer "WHAT IS URUSEI YATSURA?"

But the point is that R.T. herself consider UY "a closed chapter of my life".

UNLESS....

... UNLESS SOMEONE IS WILLING TO OFFER A LOTS OF MONEY: this is what happened in 1991 with "Forever My Darling" and in 2011 with the OAV "Obstacle Course Swim Meet" (in this case it was a big shopping center Japanese, to promote its inauguration, paid copyrights).

What about lum-chan.com ?

Well, we don't have a lots of money...

... BUT WE HAVE A GREAT PASSION AND A LOTS OF FANTASY TO KEEP UY "ALIVE" !!!

If you take a tour inside the gallery you'll find a lots of images, unedit tales, comics and manga aout "our lovely alien".

UY WILL NEVER END !!  :)

UY was ... is ... a LONG TIME AGO. Despite the enduring popularity of Lum (and she does continue to generate interest), the series was early-1980's. You know the numbers. TV series ended in 1985, movies kept going through 1988, the occasional OVA for a few years beyond that.

Even the Rumic World specials -- which celebrated 30 years of Rumiko Takahashi -- were pinned to her initial success with UY as a manga, which debuted in ... 1978. Thus, the Rumic World hubbub was in 2008. Think about that: 2008. Almost 5 years ago.

So. "Will Urusei Yatsura ever be revived?" Probably not. Not by the Big Powers, anyway.

But. COULD it be? Mmmm ... yeah. It COULD be done as a doujin anime; that is to say, as a fan-made work. Much as Giovane has produced "A New Beginning From The End" as a fan-made derivative work, so could an anime be done. IT'S A LOT OF WORK, though.

I sincerely doubt that we will ever see any new UY content created by Miss Takahashi unless she has a very drastic change of heart.  How do I know?  I asked her in person at the '94 ComicCon...  ;D  Of course, that was nearly 20 years ago.

I also doubt that any of the old time fans would be happy with a modern style revamp of the old series, so my choice would be to let sleeping Lums lie... Besides, she wouldn't be very happy if anyone bothered her while she was snuggling close to her Darling!

And as Miss Takahashi added during our discussion, she gave her blessing to fanfic writers to write their own UY mis-adventures and happy endings.

Just as a side-bar: what's she (Takahashi) up to these days? Is Kyoukai no Rinne still in production, and (if it is) how is it doing?

Well since its the end of the world on the 21st I hope she does a end of the world UY special ^^ However on a serious note it would be nice if they did HD remake of the series...
@veehive haven't heard about her in awhile to be honest :X Maybe its just me catching news slow :X

I consider it unnecessary. Despite I'd love to see Lum and Ataru tying the knot (oh mym I'm a sentimental fella), Rumiko Takahshi said it clear: Once she finishes, one of her works, the fanbase "inherits" them, and she blesses all fanfics, doujins (non-H) and fan comics. Word of God(dess).
