Alright, now I've just watched this movie again. And I think I came up what it could be about. I just wanna know what you guys think. It may not be perfect, but here it is:
So, we know Lum's powers start waning because of that role she played in Mendou and Megane's movie when she touched the lightning, including she lost her horns.
Remember when she was listening to the music of the tree? Maybe that's when it got acquainted with Lum and saw she was good.
Of course Ataru cut the tree, then those different occurrences happened.
Maybe, just maybe it was the spirit of the tree that put Lum under a spell and made her go inside that volcano. She saw the younger versions of her friends (memories) and towards the end, the tree saw that she had to go while they were enjoying the memories, so it told her it would be fine by itself.
Mendou does mention that their tree has been around for a long time, and that its like a guardian, so maybe its guardian of Tomobiki's memories.
Again, this is just my observation. I'd like comments though lol

Lum the Forever is one of my favorite movies, but I don't know why. I saw that 2x in Japanese and 1x in english dub.
The movie is rather quiet, but exciting and reflective. It's also the only one movie, who was made a Making of.

What do you mean it was made a making of?

I mean it is the only movie, who japanese producer make a documentation about the movie production. It called "Making of Urusei Yatsura 4: Lum the Forever".

The movie is so confusing and yet it fits somehow, the artwork is amazing and I don't know but despite the credits song it really gives me Melancholy

The movie was released on blu-ray this past June, is there available somewhere?
