Title: [DENIED] Mod vs Admin
Post by: cata on May 12, 2010, 07:55:52 AM
I had posted this before in a PM I've sent to our dear Lum-chan but it seems that this has happened again. What I'm talking about it that Moderators CAN EDIT the Admin's posts. It's not like I don't trust Falling or any other Mod but I think the Admin's post should be "locked" to everyone but the Admin himself.

Ah it happened again? I already have informed the writers of SMF and noted it as an a bug in the bugssection of SMF. I've upped it again and hope to get some feedback from the writers of the development team.

Thanks for pointing me to this. I'll keep you informed on this.

Edit:
I checked permissions for Moderators again and couldn't find and option based on this bug to fix this. Added it to the bugreport.

Hmm... Is that really a bug? Because in other forums It's something normal... for several reasons...

For example Lum-chan could post a link to something in is post... and the link doesn't work... and a Mod can edit his post to show the correct link...
Not that that happens here but... we never know... :P

True it could be useful...
But imagine a bad moody mod comes around after a bad day and starts editing Lum-Chan's posts with random stuff (spam, adware/spyware links, etc). D:

Such actions will be rewarded with an official warning in the moderator-board and the possibillity to lose Moderator rights  :o

Of course I expect the other mods to react on this if they see this kind of fiddling is suspected. The moderation-logs tell me everything I need to know in such cases...

I just don't think a Mod should be more powerful than an Admin.

Well we aren't more powerful... we can have a few "powers" in the forum but that's all... It's not like we can take over control of the forum/website...

We need these "powers" or else what would be the point of nominating Mods?

Edit: Edited

And besides we need those powers or else what would be the point of nominating Mods?

I didn't say that "we" should remove Mod powers. I said that Mod powers shouldn't apply to Admins.

I didn't say that you said anything...

We (Mods) in this forum have the title of Global Moderator... any post in the forum be it from members, mods or admins... we have access to it.

Common privileges of moderators include: deleting, merging, moving, and splitting of posts and threads, locking, renaming, stickying of threads, banning, suspending, unsuspending, unbanning, warning the members, or adding, editing, removing the polls of threads.

In bold things we can't do... at least I can't...  :/

My point is that Admin posts should be "untouched" by the Mods or anyone else. It's the Admin, for Lum's sake.

You know, for a second there I thought this was some topic regarding us Mods attacking our Fearless Leader (I am glad it was not that way)

I believe we can edit some of the Admin posts only if it is an emergency, lumaholics

Well... Lum-chan thinks we are trustworthy enough to promote us to Mods... so... yeah... What are we discussing again?! ;D

I have to support Falling on this one. It's great news that the Forum keeps getting new members but is it necessary to keep me posted on my e-mail?

Hey, that's odd. What kind of email besides new users? This shouldn't be happening at all...

Edit:
Have changed some settings. For mods: Please test your abilities and report in Moderator forum.
I've changed some settings recently and this is probably a result of those changes....

I haven't checked my email yet but I think its all back to normal... at least I can no longer access other members web-cams to see them... and spy on them...

Can't fix the Moderator versus Administrator Issue. It's default behavior for SMF.
