Title: To Love-Ru
Post by: ezikialrage on March 28, 2010, 08:51:15 PM
Anybody check this series out? It has many similarities to Urusei Yatsura. A space alien girl married/engaged to earthling. Usually because of a misunderstand and the male or someone else fears of planetary destruction, the space alien girl loves spicy food and has inventions that hardly ever work right. Instead of the male lead having super wealthy male rival the female lead has a super wealthy female rival(Although I think LaLa is oblivious to this fact).

The rival is actually a guy, though he changes in certain conditions.
And it's different on the fact that the main character isn't a skirt-chaser like Ataru.

Still, it's a pretty good anime, even if the concept is getting old...

It's on my list to see later. As if that's saying much. I've began a few series despite not being done with UY yet, just started my Cowboy Bebop disc.

I do not think Ren/Run actually counts,she\he seems more like Ran(minus the grudge and sadistic personality) the way Lala treated him when they were children.

other similar ones that I recommend would be
Sora no otoshimono:
its very similar to UY mainly because the main character is perverted to all the girls except the girl he is living with, very good comedy with a good plot well balanced read the second review here to see what I mean

Kemeko DX and Rizelmine are similar in the sense that the main character forcefully engaged to a non-human girl, but both weren't interesting in my opinion

I laughed my ass off watching that show.
Spoiler (hover to show)
I think Ataru is tame compared to Tomiki.

Now Kakeru from Akikan is probably a more modern day version of Ataru. The series kind of reminds me of a combination of Sekirei and Urusei Yatsura. Kakeru lives with a superpowered female who usually punishes him for acting perverted.

There is also a ova called Outlanders which has a similar theme(except the male lead is not a pervert or skirt chaser),even the female lead has green hair and horns and is even voiced by Fumi Hirano.
