He is indeed the heart of the UY saga as well as lum,both of them complete each other,in me opinion,they are the best anime couple

Think on it,watashi,if ya were to notice some of the recent anime couples you will notice that sometimes they argue a lot and never solve their differences,in UY ataru and lum have a similar situation but one knows that there is a love link and a great spark on them,so realistic it seems as fiction,besides in all the rumiko takahashi animes and mangas,lum and ataru are the few that really have a good relation,think on it

All anime couples (most of them) are so similar to Lum and Ataru. In my opinion Lum and Ataru are the Best Anime Couple ever.

but there has been many more complicate situations than ataru and lum
and some couples didnt even have a chance to really love each other because they were seperated... [in one case seperated by death]

but you get to know about it because he talks about his past and so...
so so sad.. makes me cry!!

Has Ataru ever delivered a blistering insult to Lum, or is he incapable of insulting a woman in a severe way? I know he called her a "bitch" once. What an asswipe! >:(

according to the subs, Ataru insults Lum that way, but, according on what the phrase he actually pronounced was "Lamu no ajo", which is also used more frequently by ten, for example he used this word to insult onsen mark when drunk, but it could apply in the same way with the word "baka".

Yeah,that is correct,janus,sometimes the subs r not 100 % faithful,maybe this isnt da case but inda UY manga version of Viz they translated Setsubun as if it were some kind of Alien Hallowen

Ataru is afraid of electricity schocks and I'm not sure about what I'm going to say next because I don't know if it was a dream of mine or if I watched it in an episode/OVA/movie: Ataru is afraid of lightenings.

In episode 3 of the TV series, Ataru counts off the things he's afraid of. According to the American-English subtitles, they are: Earthquakes, Lightning, Fires, (and) Girls. I can't pick-up spoken nihongo just yet or I'd be more sure of what he actually says ....

Well ... he was cowering under the desk in his bedroom while a lightning storm raged just outside (and Lum was perched on the sill of the open window next to the desk) when he said it ... so he may have been a little distracted.

I don't think he's afraid of girls. Notice that when he says "girls" he completely forgets about the lightningstorm, so I think he includes girls in his fear list to give him back some courage.

I disagree. I think it's a "Freudian Slip" for Ataru. I think he's afraid of Girls (at least at this point in the storyline) ...

Amusing. :) However, I remain unconvinced.
Ataru is afraid of girls or whatever "girls" represent to him: success, failure, rejection, adulthood, responsibility .... His reaction to such things is Overcompensation (he leaps to his balcony railing and proclaims "I'm not afraid of anything!" at the top of his lungs).
I consider this to be key to understanding his personality. ;D

Let's face it. He became stronger towards electricty and fire. There's no doubts about that. Everyone knows that his life changed completely on the day that he met Lum for the first time. Aliens, insane monks, demons, etc. Maybe he just panicked and flipped out and yelled everything that came to his mind when he was feeling trapped. Fire, electricity - fears. Girls - dreams. I have had a few experiences that I could have died then and the only thing that came to my mind was a person. In his case I don't think he was already in love with Lum so he was not in love so he just thought about every attractive young lady that came up to his mind at that time.

Overcompensation is "an attempt to overcome a real or imagined defect or unwanted trait ... by overly exaggerating its opposite".
Ataru tries to overcome his shyness by coming on (too strong) to girls. Which sort-of works but becomes an unwanted behavior in itself (if you ask Lum .... or any other girls in Tomobiki-cho).

I already said this but I think Ataru is much better-looking than Mendo. I think everyone has a little bit of each character in his personality/life. I just hope Cherry gets left out. x)

I think when I said Ataru doesn't blush, I was thinking about scenes like hmm... involving Lum naked or about to be naked or...
there was one scene where he was gonna take a bath and he had previously asked Lum if she could scrub his back or something (PAUSE, this was to tick off Megane during that movie episode... the one Megane was in charge of).
Now, I don't think he blushed but he DEFINITELY freaked out when Lum said she thought they were gonna take the bath together XD
Anyways, as far as the (so far only) example of Ataru blushing; that involved a situation that was a step further than nudity.

Ataru has wonderful recovering power and un-death body.
But even though he had un-dead body, but he still feels painful of being zapped. Because his un-dead body, he must suffer unlimited zapping with high voltage by Lum day by day until his natural death.

I know that Ataru may look like a zombie but I don't think he is truly undead
