In some of the later ( non-AE translated ) shows Lum demonstrates a determination that matches Ataru's ( but in a different way ). At the same time Lum quite happily enjoys her little "triumphs" with Ataru, such as in the episode where she makes a deal to allow Ataru to do what he wants for a day in exchange for a date. The scenes where Lum unknowingly devastates Tomobiki-cho ( and at the same time Suger, Ginger and Pepper ) are hilarious all for the way that Lum is absorbed in her anger. But at the end, as she drags Ataru to their "dato", Lum is blissfully happy, despite what Ataru did.
