I seen Urusei Yatsura for first time during year 1988 on french tv when i was 15.
They named the serie "Lamu" (phonetic version of Lum)
I couldnt stop laughing when watching the first episode, it was way more fun than others animes of that time ;D After a few days i was complety hooked and started recording it on vhs.
Even after all these years i still think its the best anime ever done.
-
That's right ;D
Is surely one of the best anime made in Japain, maybe the best one !!!
That's why so many people are missing so much Lamù and Ataru !!!
That's why all the people who visit this site are trying to keep Uruseiyatsura alive in any way, writing threads, songs, fanfictions and trying to realize a comic !!!
-
Indeed
There are lot of cool and nice animes nowadays, but nothing that feel like Uruseiyatsura :)
-
but you have also to consider that, recently, there is also an IMITATION anime of uruseiyatsura.
search on youtube for "INUKAMI": it's a mix between Uruseiyatsura and Inuyasha.
As you can see, the anime of Rumiko Takahashi has imprinted so deep its mark on the anime's world !!!

welcome lum-fan ;D
this makes me wonder how UY is known internationally, and why hasn't takahashi reived or continued this amazing series
-
Heya you both !
I had already visited the site a long time ago (over 5 years i think), but never registered.
Got back growing interest in animes recently, specially UY as its my alltime prefered.Found your site again while searching on the net.
So this time i decided to register ;p
I'm amazed to see a good living site/forum , and very well-made.
Very nice job Lum-Chan ! Keep it going !!

From what i read a while ago, Janus, nothing was really done to promote UY outside of Japan during its prime time (thats a shame).
For Rumiko not reviving it, she said she wanted to get on new stuff after she worked so many years on UY, its understandable as it started with the manga around 1978 and ended around early 90s with last official OAVs and movie.
So she worked Ranma1/2 and co.
But i agree with you, i wouldnt mind a true revival of the serie.
The problem would be inspiration though, 200+ episodes is a lot already, and the fact the original fan base is over 45years old now(and so most have lost interest in animes long ago).
But who know....hope isnt forbidden :p

Welcome Lum-fan!!!

welcome :)
-
This isn't exactly an introduction topic but welcome anyway. :P

not all fans are in the 40's age rank. there are lots of teenagers and dudes in the 20's range that are fans of these series. ;)
-
That INUKAM really is an imitation of UY and Inuyasha, the 2 main characters are similiar to lum and ataru, even in the voices :P
-
Sandstorm, for the 40+, i was talking about the original fan-base, from the times UY was all fresh.
Of course they are a lot of new and young fans all around

Indeed, even the girl has greenish hair. But this anime is still kinda fun and the plot is different too, i just started to watch it.
The episode 2 made me feel sick though :p
