Yes! I read about it this morning, I logged in here to see if anyone had already shared the news!
This is amazing!

UNBELIEVABLE NEWS!!!! What a way to start 2022!!! Saw it over on a Facebook page "seiyuu". I cannot get a link to the FB page, so here's the copy-pasta of their post (includes links to a Japanese article, with a LOT of info' & pix of the new voice talent, and to a teaser video !!!!! )
A new Urusei Yatsura TV anime is in production and will be broadcast on Fuji TV's noitaminA timeframe. The new series is produced to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Shogakukan.
The new series stars Hiroshi Kamiya as Ataru Moroboshi and Sumire Uesaka as Lum.
The new series is directed by Hideya Takahashi and Yasuhiro Kimura and produced by David Production.
The series will be released in 4 cours, and the first cour of the series will be released in 2022.

Pinch me, I must be dreaming! Talk about an excellent way to start the new year. So far everything they've shown looks great, and I'm even willing to accept the new VAs. Listening to the trailer, they captured the spirit of the past actors well.
-
I was both surprised and scared when I heard the news. The main problem I had in my mind were the voices. Then I heard the teaser and now I'm only surprised :D
-
Wow, now that's unexpected.
-
First thing I did after hearing the news a few minutes ago was to come here and rejoice with you guys, I should probably binge the original show before I watch the new season… This really is a miracle.
-
This is a very unexpected but welcome surprise!
-
Like everyone said, this is unexpected. My stance regarding the new Urusei Yatsura anime is to wait and see, I don't want to hype a lot because I think that UY is a product of its age, the 80's and a combination of many factors that doesn't happen many times in history that made the show outstanding. I can't see where the new anime is really bringing something new in this matter (except adaptations from unadapted chapters from the original anime), but I'll sure watch the day its available to watch.
I liked the new seiyuus. I thought they strove to resemble Furokawa and Hirano.
-
Nostalgia...what else?
-
I wonder if it will have more of the continuity and character development that I'm told the Manga did. The 80's TV business insisted on episodic TV so that series were easier to sell in syndication, thus things often "reset" at the end of the episode in many series.
It seems like this series will only cover adaptations of manga stories, not any new storylines. But perhaps this will increase interest in the manga and lead to reprints/translations into more languages? The anime seems to be available in many more countries than the manga.
-
There's a longer trailer with a release date of October. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e50Mvp76Fuc

I would be glad you they put some kind off philosophical episodes on this new series, they did put some of them in the old series.
If they do some episodes kinda like Beautiful Dreamer then I would be glad.
But for that perhaps they would have to call Mamoru Oshii again and if Rumiko Takahashi is there with the production things would probably escalate, probably not.
It still bothers me that the best movie of the series isn't liked by her, but she keeps her mouth shut about that cause she knows the popularity of it. xD
-
Whoa, it has been literally ages from my last access!!
But this new series is the biggest event since the big-bang, I HAD to come back, even for a short time!
A curious thing:
In the past few years I've been ultra-busy trying something I thought nearly impossible: 3 years ago I become a student in a voice-actor school! I don't knew why, simply decided to try, thinking that they would kick my butt in no time...
...and so I reached the PROFESSIONAL CLASS in 2 years!!!
Sadly, at the end of the last class they said that even if I'm quite good, I'm too old to start a career, so I was resigned to quit it there...
...but when I heard of this new series, I started to believe that maybe there was a scheme behind all that!!!
During school, one of the teachers were the old italian voice actress of Ran-chan, and recently I participated to a workshop with one of the italian voice actor of Mendou and next month there will be another one!!
The probabilities are less than zero, but I don't care at all!!! I intend to do all I can and try to become one of the italian voice actor of the new series!!! :D
-
There is ALWAYS a possibility. Don't lose faith.
-
they said that even if I'm quite good, I'm too old to start a career, so I was resigned to quit it there...
I'm confused. What? I never knew there was an age limit for that. I always assumed it depended on your voice type or characters you were voicing.
But either way, don't give up!!! Go forward always.

It's UY Eve!
Tomorrow, October 13th, 2022, may be the luckiest day of the year for those of us charmed by Urusei Yatsura to see the return of our dearest Lum-chan!
What will tomorrow bring? Will we be thrilled? Will we be enchanted again? Will the new creators care and continue the sacred work of revealing our celestial visitor as delightful and endearing? If only tomorrow would bring such joy and happiness that Lumchan brings out in our hearts!
Now we can rejoin our friends in Tomobiki-cho in new adventures, new worlds. We can watch them as they develop, grow, and live.
I plead that tomorrow not be a pale reflection of the glorious past. Mimicking now familiar tales. I hope these new creators' hearts are filled with that sense of wonder and appreciation of our Divine Visitor from Oni-boshi that give us episodes that boldly go further, farther and funnier than ever before. Let it be so!
-
Where do we comment the episodes?
I already watched it!!!
-
Our hopes are answered!
Wow! Episode 1 of the new series is a must-see. Wonderful art, faithful storyline, and Lum is still so adorable (!!!)
I can't believe I could watch it the exact same day it premiered in Japan. AND, thanks to GoGoAnime, we have it already subtitled! (Oh, the days of VHS. So painful having to wait forever for new stuff and then try to figure out dialogue.)
It's a glorious day.

Well, there is no limit...if you already work as voice actor! But it seems it's a problem if you have not started yet...

It's official!
I'm in love!
Again, after almost 40 years!

Moroboshi-kun: Thanks so much for the screen caps! They show what I like in the new series--keeping with the original storyline, but with a more refined look and fresh artwork. (Naturally, as the original was made for 12" TV screens vs. today's hi-def.) Tho I might quibble a tiny bit about changing her wonderful jade green hair color to this iridescent blue-green, it is still charming.
I'd love to have been a fly on the wall for that discussion. It must have been quite a debate. Not to lose us seasoned fans while evoking that same emotional delight in Lum that is essential for the new show's success.

Yes!! That's what I'm loving too in the new series. I love 80's animation but nowadays it's starting to look a bit weird especially on big screens. So to have an 80's anime remade with today's animation it just amazing.

Yeah the old color was great, but in the new series I'm loving the effect they added when she's discharging electricity

Totally. Imagine watching the crew agree on all that plus the seyuus working together (both the new ones and the old ones), etc. Must have been great!
BTW, speaking of old and new seyuus: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pOdwplKNdrw :)

I don't know if it's recent but here's the original seiyūs giving their voice once again.

What's really interesting, I only checked the rest of the cast today, Toshio Furukawa and Fumi Hirano who voiced Ataru and Lum in the original series are now voicing Ataru's dad and Lum's mom respectively.
I think it's quite fitting xD

Thanks, Jataro! That's a great point--another fine example of the respect the current producers are displaying for the original. Bodes well for that new stories will also reflect the values and fun of the original.

A thing that I noticed but I didn't see anyone complain yet it's Lum's eye color, in the new series they are golden when in the original they are blue, quite the difference.

WOW! I congratulate you, Jataru! I totally missed that change. I guess I find her charming either way. (Otherwise I would definitely have noticed.)
Curiously enough, this isn't the first time Lum has had golden eyes. The full-size statue offered in January 2016 also has golden eyes:

I actually noticed when the first trailers came out, I thought that it was odd.
Also there´s a new preview and we listen do "Lum no Love Song" xD

Urusei Yatsura is back again, let's enjoy this new series. First episode was good in my opinion, bbut for some reason I liked more the classic one.
-
Not only did they change her eye colour from blue to gold/orange, they changed her eye make-up as well. I'm gonna miss the blue eye-liner, the orange looks more like a shadow than make-up.
-
The new Stormtroopers and Torajima.

What about releases in other country?
I was very surprised that peppermint anime licenses the new Urusei Yatsura series for Germany: https://akibapasstv.vhx.tv/products/urusei-yatsura-2022 . Currently they stream the new UY series with german subtitles.

Now that German publisher try to promote Urusei Yatsura: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oA1Fy_exIQ0 (and give 10% discount with code NinoYatsura on their Video platform).

Wow... I noticed the iris change, but totally not her eye-liner. I've grown to like the gold, but I agree the blue is better for the make up.

Good catch with that statue! Seems like they were using golden eyes in modern merchandise pre-reboot, as her Nendoroid and Figma action figures also have them.
