Filler Episodes

(1/1)

Jataru:
The original anime has a lot of episodes but there are 20 anime exclusive episodes or in other words filler episodes.

Basically they don't follow the manga canon and it's an original story.

What I find interesting is that most of if not more than a half of them are rather philosophical, dramatical with less humor in some cases.

Point, 'And Then They Were None!?', I loved the drama and mystery, in a more darker tone than the usually light and comical episodes.

'Terror! Attack of the Slimy Potatoes!!' also a darker theme despite being a parody of a 60's movie 'Matango'.

A rather philosophical episode, 'Pitiful! Mother of Love and Banishment!?', this one is clearly a Mamoru Oshii episode, with many of elements portrayed.

2 part Episodes like 'Scramble! Retrieve Lum!!' and 'Deathmatch! Ataru vs. the Mendō Brigade!!', action packed but still with comical element.

There are other filler episodes really good, romantical like 'Dimensional Switch, Where's Darling!?', comical like 'Deadly! Standup Eating Wars!!', 'Great Vault! Desperate Survival!!' and 'Operation: Peek in the Woman's Bath!'.

Fun fact, of the top 10 ranking episodes portrayed in the 80's, 4 of the are filler episodes.

Please leave your thoughts.

Moroboshi-kun:
I really need to do my research on the original anime. I've been a fan for over 18 years but never read the manga nor did research on what's original content or anime exclusive.

I fail as a fan! :P

I actually saw this the other day because it's one of my favorite "filler" episodes and the animation is actually amazing for a UY episode.

KasugaKyosuke15:
That's the thing; Filler episodes usually have a negative connotation for anime fans, but I find Urusei Yatsura to be the exception to that rule. "Dimensional Switch, Where's Darling!?" is one of my favorite episodes of the show, and apparently has a high rating among Japanese fans as well... That ending gets me every time.
I agree "And Then There Were None" is another memorable episode.

startarget:
Rumiko did create UY but if you compare the manga with the anime, the anime clearly comes out superior. To be honest if just the manga existed or if the anime carbon copied the manga I doubt I would be a fan of UY. The team behind the anime really polished Rumiko's work.

That's why I don't think Rumiko deserves the spotlight.
