Title: Underated classics?

Do you know of any anime that you feel is underrated and is not as well known as it deserves to be?

I think Gurren Lagann should be a little more popular.

Like it may be ranked #9 on MAL, but I barely hear anybody talking about it.

As compared to One Piece, Naruto, Bleach, Dragon Ball Z, etc.

Underated classics... the only one that comes to mind is Crayon Shin-chan...

Mostly its underated because people think its for kids... but I can garantee... it's not. It's fun for all family. ;D

As for Gurren Lagann and Urusei Yatsura... they are not underated they are just eclipsed by the main characters... Yoko and Lum respectively...

I don't know if I've mentioned this before but I consider "Welcome to the NHK" a hidden gem. It may not fit everyone's taste, this show highlight Japan's Problems (like shut-ins, otaku, MMO adddicts, scams and suicides) and how its presented humorously. also, its interesting to see how the characters overcame their problems and moved on. In the end it left a warm feeling, inside to see how everything concluded. The OP/ED music fit the mood just right although I like the first version of the OP better than the second. I just condensed the whole Review to roughly one paragraph of an anime I was planning to fully review ::)

LoL

Welcome to the NHK is just like you said... It may not fit everyone's taste. So we can't consider it underated.
Yes it was a good anime to show the problems of the japanese youth... but there where lots of animes before it that showed the same... NHK was the 1st to cover all of those problems in only one show... XD

One anime I consider underated is Natsu No Arashi which I watched at Crunchyroll that is about how a teenager meets an older girl who turns out to be a ghost who can travel in time has some great scenes in it when they go to Japan in the second world war.

I agree... Natsu No Arashi is a great anime... (there's a season 2 btw) and for some reason people (like the ones reading this) don't even know it existed... until now... ;D
